A new hero shooter is coming to town.

NetEase Games just unveiled the development of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/fragpunk/">FragPunk</a>, its latest title in the first-person shooter genre. The China-based video game publisher made the revelation during the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/post/xbox-showcase-2024/">Xbox Showcase 2024</a> on June 9th, along with many <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/upcoming/">upcoming games on Xbox consoles</a>. FragPunk is set to make its debut this 2025.

Based on the game's description, FragPunk is a 5v5 hero <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/upcoming/shooting/">shooter</a> that also features deckbuilding elements. Creators from Bad Guitar, a subsidiary of NetEase, promised to bring a unique take on the FPS genre with their newest project.

The upcoming game, according to developers, will not be incorporating traditional hero shooter mechanics. Instead, players will have to rely its deck of over 70 shard cards in strategizing their moves. These cards will allow them a variety of possibilities. From rule-bending abilities to respawning teammates back to life.

"No two rounds of FragPunk are ever the same thanks to over 70 shard cards to play with," NetEase said. "Since the card selection changes every round, this creates new and unique combinations, with infinite gameplay possibilities," they added.

Clocking in at a brisk 2.5 minutes each, the game challenges players to hone their reflexes and accuracy to dominate the battlefield.

In the meantime, NetEase confirmed that they will launch a limited playtest for FragPunk. They have already opened registrations for the game's <a href="https://www.fragpunk.com/">Closed Alpha Test</a>. The event will run from June 27 to July 1. But only for selected participants in North America.

The playtest will allow players access to 70 shard cards and 10 playable heroes. It will also contain four maps, and 15 usable weapons, including those with special abilities. The test, in addition, will feature a variety of in-game rewards, developers added.

FragPunk will launch on PC and Xbox Series X|S.

FragPunk: NetEase Unveils New Hero Shooter

Good news for fans of the popular action <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/best/rpg/">RPG</a> Mana series!

<a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/visions-of-mana/">Visions of Mana</a>, the fifth and latest installment in the franchise, finally has a release date. Square Enix just dropped the newest trailer for the upcoming Mana title on June 12th. In it, they announced that the game will welcome players starting August 29th. It can be accessed on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X|S.

Similar to its predecessors, Visions of Mana is an action role-playing game featuring real-time combat, set in a semi-open world.

The game will feature a brand-new storyline but still set within the Mana universe. Players will guide the protagonist Val, a newly appointed soul guard tasked to protect his childhood friend Hinna, a chosen maiden called an 'alm.'

And together, they embark on a perilous journey to the fabled Tree of Mana.

The latest trailer for Visions of Mana also showed additional content players can expect upon its release. These included two new companions who will join Val and Hinna in their quest.

It also provided a closer look at some of the latest gameplay features, including the Elemental Vessels. These are mystical artifacts that house the power of the elements within them. Players can use the Elemental Vessels to change classes and gain new abilities during battles.

Visions of Mana features a unique three-person party system. They will choose from a roster of five playable characters, each with their own unique skillset, to form their team. These included Careena, Morley, Palamena, Julei, Ramcoh, and Aesh.

The game also sees the return of the series' signature Ring Menu system. This allows players to pause combat and strategize their next move.

Visions of Mana was first revealed in 2021. It will also mark the return of designer/director Koichi Ishii, producer Masaru Oyamada, and composers Hiroki Kikuta, Tsuyoshi Sekito, and Ryo Yamazaki.

Meanwhile, Square Enix revealed that they will be rolling out various editions for the game. Pre-order has also started, they added. Players can avail the digital Standard Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition. Both editions come with the "Brave Blade" weapon for Val as a pre-order bonus.

Additionally, bonuses for either digital edition purchased before September 30th include the "Guardian Garment" outfit for Val and a "Starter Pack" offering a temporary boost to experience points and lucre earned.

The Digital Deluxe Edition, on the other hand, contains Mana Superstars Costume Set, Mana Series BGM Bundle, and a 24-hour Early Access. This means players who bought this version can access the game a day ahead before its general release. 

A physical Standard Edition and a Collector's Edition are also available for pre-order, said Square Enix.

The Mana series first made its debut in 1993, as a spin-off of the iconic Final Fantasy Series.

Visions of Mana Gets Release Date

What could happen if one of history's fiercest battles did not end? The upcoming RTS title <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/grit-and-valor--1949/">Grit and Valor - 1949</a> may shed some light.

Video game publisher Megabit has teamed up with Liverpool-based Milky Tea studio for the release of Grit and Valor - 1949. The dieselpunk, rogue-lite game is set to make its debut on PC, Switch, and new-gen consoles in 2025.

Set in an alternate universe, where the Axis Powers in World War II hadn't given up, it introduces players to a war unlike any other. The Axis countries had taken control of Europe, thanks to monstrous mechanized warriors.

For players interested in finding out what the game's premise would look like, they don't have to look further. Megabit has dropped two video assets for Grit and Valor - 1949 on June 10th. Showcased during the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/post/guerillacollective-2024/">Guerilla Collective Showcase</a>, the gameplay trailer provided a quick look into the struggle to defeat the 'Evil Axis' powers. Specifically, the towering Mechs that dominated Europe's landscape, replacing tanks and planes.


In Grit and Valor - 1949, players will lead a squad of mechs, the last hope for the resistance. Their mission is to deliver an EMP device and cripple the Axis war machine. The game contains four distinct regions.


According to its creators, each features unique gameplay mechanics, challenges, and procedurally-generated battlefields.

CAPCOM just recently dropped a surprise not only for fans of the hit Resident Evil (RE) franchise. But also for gamers and owners of Apple devices.

The Osaka-based gaming company revealed it will port two more titles of the survival-horror series to Apple platforms.

Beginning this July 2nd, gamers and owners of Apple devices can finally experience <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/resident-evil-7-biohazard/">Resident Evil 7: Biohazard</a>. The <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/upcoming/">upcoming iOS game</a> can be played on Apple Silicon-powered devices. These included the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and every iPad and Mac with the M1 chip or later.

In addition, CAPCOM announced an Apple port of the remake version of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/resident-evil-2/">Resident Evil 2</a> for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. A release date and window has yet to be revealed.

Biohazard and RE2: Remake will become CAPCOM's third and fourth titles to be expanded to Apple devices. In 2023, they first ventured into Apple Gaming with <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/resident-evil-village/">Resident Evil Village</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/resident-evil-4-remake/">Resident Evil 4</a>.

Biohazard, according to its creators, will have controls enhanced and optimized for Apple devices. They confirmed that it will have an Auto Fire feature, and can support touch controls and Bluetooth controllers.

Similar to previous RE titles on Apple, it will allow cross-progression and Universal Purchase. This means players can access the game on all compatible Apple devices and continue their saved games anywhere and anytime.

Biohazard first came out in 2017 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. A departure from the action-oriented gameplay, the title marked the franchise's return to its survival-horror roots. It was also the first RE title that introduced the first-person perspective.

Biohazard follows the story of Ethan Winters on a quest to find his missing wife, Mia, in an abandoned house in the Louisiana countryside. The game will eventually have its sequel in RE8: Village.

Pre-orders for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard on the App Store are now open. The base game will carry a price tag of US $19.99. /

Capcom Expands Resident Evil to Apple

A brand new shooter game is making its way to PC soon. And it features a world where the paranormal collides with nuclear fallout.

Antistatic Studios, a new indie developer, just unveiled their debut project titled <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/phantom-line/">Phantom Line</a>. A coop-shooter game, Phantom Line has <a href="https://store.steampowered.com/app/2400840">a playable demo on Steam</a> that will run until June 18th.

The cooperative first-person shooter (FPS) is set in a chilling post-nuclear Eastern Europe. The game throws players into a world ravaged by war, where a new threat emerges. Anomalies, terrifying creatures, and unexplainable phenomena have breached through tears in space-time.

In it, players take the role of an elite soldier, the Operator, working under Mortfield Industries. The game's story kicks off when the Operator has been tasked to investigate one of its research facilities in Eastern Europe.

After it went off-grid, it is up to the Operators not only to shed light on the mystery but also to deal with a world torn by years of conflict and paranormal activities.

"With fire and chaos spreading quickly, you and your friends are on the frontline of humanity as its last defense," developers said.

Phantom Line's core mechanics featured a co-op (1-4) shooter, and procedurally-assisted open world.

The developers have also recently opened a limited early demo version of the upcoming game. Called the Pre Alpha - June 2024 Playtest, PC players can access it until June 18th.

"Feedback is very important for our development process. We want to invite playtesters to include their input from the very start and shape the future of the game," developers said.

As of this writing, the demo for Phantom Line can only be played on a Windows PC using a mouse and keyboard. / ###

Introducing Phantom Line: Ghostbusters with Guns in a Post-Nuclear Europe

Publisher from Joystick Ventures recently dropped a new cinematic gameplay trailer for ANTONBLAST. The video premiered during Steam's <a href="https://whatoplay.com/post/guerillacollective-2024/">Guerrilla Collective</a> on June 7th. And its highlight is no other than the red devil himself, Satan, who is voiced by Gianni Matragrano, one of gaming's most notable voice actors.

The cinematic preview lasted for a minute and a half. And it contained snippets of never-before-seen, in-game cutscenes featuring the Lord of the Darkness. The trailer started with Satan being fixated on his image as the reddest being in existence.

But things took a turn for the worst for the Lord of Darkness. Upon consulting his Magic Mirror, Satan threw in a fit of rage and jealousy. Apparently, he has a contender for being the 'reddest' - a demolition worker named Dynamite Anton from Boiler City. Then all hell broke loose (pun intended).

In ANTONBLAST, players take control of Anton or his cranked-out coworker, Annie. After finding out Satan stole his Spirit Collection out of envy, they go on an anger-fuelled quest to have it back.

ANTONBLAST is currently being developed by indie studio Summitsphere. Developers first revealed the game in a Kickstarter campaign in 2022. Developers also described it as a successor to their Wario Land-inspired Antonball series.

"One of our primary goals with ANTONBLAST has been to make the player feel as if they’re experiencing a living, breathing 2000s cartoon," said Tony Grayson of Summitsphere.

The latest trailer, according to Grayson, also marked a new progress for the game.

"Injecting as much of our personality as possible into every crevice (of the game) has been crucial. (And) our animated in-engine cutscenes are the furthest logical conclusion of that," he said.

ANTONBALL is slated for release on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch this November 12th. A demo version on Steam is still online as of June 8th, 2024.

ANTONBLAST: Upcoming Action Platformer Drops New Cinematic Trailer

Cats and crabs have had their turn already. Now, it's time for another quirky gaming experience in which players become rabbits - riding in mecha suits.

Publisher NetEase announced partnering with developer NITRO PLUS to bring <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/rusty-rabbit/">Rusty Rabbit</a>. This action, side-scroller game is set to land on PC and PlayStation 5 this September 24th.

"Rusty Rabbit brings a personal story that delivers plenty of adventure and exploration along with “smash and dash” gameplay action," NetEase described.

The upcoming game is based on an original concept and screenplay from writer Gen Urobuchi of Netflix's Godzilla animated movie trilogy. Urobuchi is also known for writing the hit anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica and PSYCHO-PASS.

In Rusty Rabbit, players will find themselves in a post-apocalyptic world. The human race has left Earth as it entered another ice age. As a result, rabbits dominated the planet. In the game, players take control of Stamp. An eccentric middle-aged rabbit, he survives and lives in the harsh environment with his trusty merch, the Junkster.

However, an unfortunate crash took things to another turn. Stamp soon ended up deep beneath the earth where he stumbled upon a trove of forgotten information, stored in D-TAM terminals. But these were no ordinary archives as Stamp found clues surrounding the fate of his missing daughter.

Driven by a newfound purpose, Stamp then embarks on a quest, deeper into the ruins to unearth the secrets buried within.

Rusty Rabbit is a game that blends exploration and combat. Players guide Stamp, inside the "Junkster", to traverse frozen ruins, collecting parts to upgrade it. Fast-paced "smash and dash" combat lets them overcome enemies while uncovering the mysteries of the world.

In the meantime, NetEase confirmed that Rusty Rabbit will join in the upcoming Summer Game Fest, from June 7 until June 10. There, fans and eager players can learn more about the newest game.

They also announced that Urobuchi and producer Yuichiro Saito will be attending the Anime Expo in Los Angeles this July 7th. Urobuchi and Saito are expected to hold an in-depth discussion about their game.

Pre-orders for Rusty Rabbit has opened on June 5th. In addition, PlayStation 5 players will receive early access starting September 21st, three days before the official release. The game will be available for $29.99

Creators of the upcoming cooking game <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/magical-delicacy/">Magical Delicacy</a> has finally unveiled its release date.

Publisher Whitehorn Games recently announced that they will launch Magical Delicacy this July 16. They will roll out the title on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Additionally, subscribers of Xbox's Game Pass can play the game upon its launch.

The American indie game publisher made the reveal in the newest trailer for Magical Delicacy.

Developed by a solo developer, sKaule, Magical Delicacy is where Metroidvania-lite meets cooking. A pixel-art platformer, it tells the story of a young woman's quest to become a full-fledged witch.

Players step in the shoes of the protagonist Flora who, one day, arrives in the fictional and whimsical town of Grat. To achieve her dream, she must hone her magical skills.

And one way of doing this is to open a shop. Players then help Flora cook meals and brew magical potions for Brat's inhabitants. From townsfolks to mysterious travelers from faraway lands.

The gameplay in Magical Delicacy not only revolves around whipping up dishes, and satisfying cravings. But players need to also collect and gather ingredients, including rare ones, from shops. In addition, Flora can cultivate her own garden to keep her pantry in stock.

In true Metroidvania fashion, the game also allows players to explore the town for hidden treasures. They can navigate Grat during your deliveries, climb bell towers and old ramparts, or uncover lost caves.

Magical Delicacy Will Arrive on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC in July

Three years since its release, the multi-awarded action-adventure <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/kena-bridge-of-spirits/">Kena: Bridge of Spirits</a> is finally heading to Xbox consoles.

Its creators from Ember Lab announced on June 4th, 2024 that the <a href="">upcoming Xbox game</a> title will hit the platform on August 15th. The game can be played on both Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

This development marks the game's first foray onto Xbox, bringing the captivating story of Kena to a whole new audience, said Josh Grier, Chief Operating Officer at Ember Lab.

"As our debut game, Kena means a great deal to everyone at the studio, and the team is excited to share Kena's journey with more players. We really hope everyone enjoys meeting Kena and her Rot friends," he said.

Aside from the title itself, Ember Labs revealed that the Xbox edition of Kena: Bridge of Spirits will come with new content. Like pirate-themed hats for the furry spirit companions known as the Rot. Xbox players will also receive a unique staff for Kena and a special Golden Rot skin.

The Xbox version will also contain all content found in its PlayStation and PC counterpart. These included the Anniversary DLC released in September 2022. Accessibility features have also been incorporated to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all players, developers said.

On the other hand, Ember Labs has also partnered with Maximum Entertainment for the distribution of physical copies of the game. Called the Kena: Bridge of Spirits - Premium Edition, it will feature exclusive merchandise. From the game's Official Digital Soundtrack to stickers. pre-orders will soon launch.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits has garnered significant acclaim since its initial release on PlayStation platforms in 2021.

Players and critics alike praised it for its narrative 'seamlessly woven into exploration, puzzle-solving, and exhilarating combat.'

The story revolves around the protagonist, Kena, and her journey of self-discovery as a young Spirit Guide. The role of a Spirit Guide is to help deceased spirits find peace and move on to the afterlife, with the help of their magical abilities. As Kena, the players will not only help individual spirits. But also, they need to fulfill a quest to restore balance in a forgotten village.

Among the accolades Ember Labs received for Kena: Bridge of Spirits included the Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie Game titles in The Game Awards 2021. On whatoplay, it received its highest playscore of 8.6 on PC and PS5.

The Xbox version of Kena: Bridge of Spirits will carry a price tag of US$39.99. /

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is Heading to Xbox This August

For fans and players who want to go on a road trip, unlike any other, here's some good news.

Publisher Dear Villagers has teamed up with an indie game developer for an upcoming story-driven adventure game. Titled <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/caravan-sandwitch/">Caravan SandWitch</a>, the upcoming game is set to make its debut this year on PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.

Caravan SandWitch is developed by Plane Toast, a studio based in France. The game takes players to the fictional world of Cigalo, inspired by France's own Provence. But with a unique sci-fi twist.

In it, they guide the protagonist on a personal quest to find his missing sister in a 'hopeful post-apocalyptic' setting. Along the way, players get to explore Cigalo's rich landscapes and interact with its inhabitants. There's the aboriginal Reinetos, the Robots left behind from the past, and the titular and mysterious SandWitch community. All of them live peacefully in Cigalo and help each other in this unwelcome environment.

As players explore Cigalo, they can also upgrade their van, unlock new areas, and explore ancient ruins.

"There's no combat, no death, and no time pressure – just the open road, the companionship of your van, and the captivating world waiting to be discovered," the game's description read.

Inspired by their childhood landscapes in Provence, France, developers from Plane Toast aims to create a game that tackles themes close to their hearts. These included representation in video games, environmental awareness, and accessibility for all players.

"We are thrilled to finally announce Caravan SandWitch!" exclaims Plane Toast. "After two years of passionate development, we're incredibly proud of what we've achieved. It's a dream come true!" they added.
