  • Ultimately, Eagle Island Twist suffers a similar fate to the original release. The core game is ultimately lackluster and repetitive, even though it looks and controls great. Mix that with some questionable difficulty choices and you have an adventure that feels like more of a chore than an enjoyable experience.

  • Eagle Island Twist is a fun expansion with a large variety of stages to play through, whether you’re a returning player or new to the title. It delivers in quantity and quality of level designs with added challenges and accessibility for all genre fans to take on. This variety still comes at the cost of a few reused gimmicks, but very little holds this game from being entertaining.

  • So Eagle Island is a slightly confused hybrid of a game: The movement, combat, mood and setting I loved, but it’s all hampered by dull abilities and a roguelike touch that doesn’t feel necessary. I reckon I’ll still boot Eagle Island up occasionally to feel the gracefulness of its movement and combat, but it’s hard to recommend to anyone but platformer diehards.

  • Eagle Island definitely sets itself apart from a lot of similar games due to its design and mechanics. It can be fun, but the combat, while okay, just isn’t enough to really carry this game for me. I’d imagine that anyone who enjoys the fighting more than I did will have a whole lot to sink their teeth into. The story and visuals alone make this game worth a look, but anyone who finds themselves easily frustrated or who doesn’t like punishing games should tread lightly.

  • Eagle Island is rife with outrageous promise, but despite its beautiful art and sound fundamental controls, everything else on the periphery falls short. This is an elegant trip that is overburdened by pratfalls and reiteration.

  • Eagle Island is an enjoyable rogue-like game and an unenjoyable Metroidvania that is fortunately pulled up by the fun combat system, beautiful art style and addictive dungeon crawling.

  • Eagle Island Twist nails most of its manoeuvres: it has a simple and unique mechanic, but does so much with it. Then it offers a huge playground with two games, dozens of levels, and lots of weirdo riffs on its own formula. In content terms, it’s the Orange Box of platforming (Bird Box?), and – aside from some gameplay quibbles – isn’t too far off the quality either.
