EA has revealed more details about its latest partnership with Marvel Games. And it looks like fans of Black Panther are in for a treat.
On July 10, the video game giant announced that work has already started on an "original, single-player" Black Panther game. In a blog post, EA confirmed forming a new studio, Cliffhanger Games, to develop the game.
They said Cliffhanger Games is a new triple-A development studio based in Seattle. It is led by Kevin Stephens, a former Vice President and studio head of Monolith Productions.
Monolith Productions is the team behind the hit action-adventure game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.
EA also said they hired more veterans from top video franchises such as Halo Infinite, God of War, and Call of Duty for the Black Panther title.
In the meantime, EA said the Black Panther game is currently in its 'early development' stage. They did not reveal any details about the release date, platforms, or gameplay of the game.
However, they promised the upcoming game would bring an "expansive and reactive world." In it, fans and players can "experience what it is like to take on the mantle of Wakanda's protector."
We're dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game,
Stephens said.
EA added that the game will also feature an original story that honors the legacy and vision of Black Panther. EA's announcement came as Black Panther celebrated the 57th anniversary of its comic debut this July.
Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created the character in 1966. It has also become one of Marvel's most popular and influential heroes.
Black Panther was also brought to life on the big screen by the late Chadwick Boseman, who starred in the 2018 film adaptation and its sequels.
