The narrative horror from The Chinese Room is getting a physical release for the PlayStation 5. This physical release for <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/still-wakes-the-deep/">Still Wakes the Deep</a> will arrive alongside the digital launch on June 18, 2024. 

The <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/upcoming/">upcoming PS5 game</a> will be available on online and retail stores in major territories across.

Still Wakes The Deep was developed by The Chinese Room. The same studio was behind other acclaimed stories like <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/dear-esther/">Dear Esther</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/everybodys-gone-to-the-rapture/">Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/amnesia-a-machine-for-pigs/">Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs</a>. 

The game takes place in an off-shore oil rig in Scotland. Players take on the shoes of Caz McLeary, a worker trapped in this isolated facility in 1975. According to the developers, it takes inspiration from iconic science fiction horror stories like John Carpenter’s The Thing and Jeff Vandermeer’s The Southern Reach Trilogy. 

In the wake of a catastrophic event, players find themselves at the mercy of a mysterious monster. Tension looms large in every moment as this otherworldly threat pursues players at random. Players can piece together the story by following linear paths or by collecting lore.

There is no combat in Still Wakes The Deep. Like Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, stealth is paramount to survival. Players can avoid encounters at all costs by running, climbing and jumping around the claustrophobic hallways. 
Players must also fight for their lives through a storm. The light environmental puzzles will serve as the gameplay loop. With all lines of communications severed, players must rely on their wits to make it out alive. 

Aside from its physical release on PS5, Still Wakes The Deep will roll out on Xbox Series X/S and PC via Game Pass at launch.

'Still Wakes The Deep' Physical Copy Available on PlayStation 5 at Launch

Dead Drop Studios rail shooter, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/railbreak/">Railbreak</a>, is now available on PlayStation. 

The <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/new/">new PS5 game</a> delivers on its over-the-top rail shooting mechanics in its dystopian world. Players blast through a horde of rampaging zombies in solo or co-op. 

Railbreak has nine heroes with their own set of tools in the battlefield. Each character has the option to wield powerful weapons imbued with elemental power. Players can stall aggressive foes with ice blasts or shock them with electricity to make them pop. 

Some of the special weapons are unique to a character. For example, Korrine can use her beam-slinging katana to decimate enemies. 

“With a killer variety of creatures to eviscerate across oodles of scenarios and modes, there’s no better time to hop onto the Railbreak thrill-ride!” says Julia Wolbach, co-founder of Dead Drop Studios. 

The game’s challenge comes from its variety of formidable bosses. Foes like Kunoichi bring her katana to slice and dice players. The gargantuan Slab can obscure players' vision in more ways than one. Each big bad has tricks on their sleeve. Potentially ruining a player’s run. 

Other encounters include ‘Glitches’. These modifiers can trigger throughout the game. It can either be a boon or a bane depending on luck. This type of mechanic adds a roguelite flavor to Railbreak’s gameplay loop. 

Additionally, Railbreak launches on PlayStation consoles with six distinct game modes. Players can enjoy casual shootouts with Score Attack, Onslaught, Boss Rushes, a fully-voiced campaign, and more. 

As an added bonus, the developers also included two game types. This includes the standard run and Time Korrisis. This mode brings a new ‘time limit’ twist that resembles classic rail shooters. 

Railbreak is available now on PlayStation 4 and 5 for the price of $19.99. It’s also available on <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/railbreak/">Xbox Series X|S</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/railbreak/">PC</a> via Steam and Epic Games Store.

We open our list with this psychedelic platformer. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/ultros/">Ultros</a> is a feast for the senses. Taking place in a weird alien world called the Sarcophagus. Players must survive the relentless horde of enemies in stylish action.

It's a metroidvania with a trippy time-bending loop. It comes with a unique gardening mechanic. Each run provides nutrient-based upgrades depending on your playstyle. These can go from problem-solving builds, to straight up overpowered abilities. 

It rewards the patient, but it can be frustrating losing upgrades and movesets in each run. 

Its central theme lays it heavy on environmentalism, telling a meaningful story about nature and its consequences. 

<h2>14. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/pepper-grinder/">Pepper Grinder</a></h2>
Platformer - 7.9

Devolver Digital’s Pepper Grinder is a dream come true for players who want a fast-paced Dig Dug. It is a fluid action game that alternates between drilling and shooting enemies. 

Digging tricky levels and obtaining hard-to-find treasures is where the fun’s at. You get a boost of dopamine every time Pepper cruises through the colorful levels. 

Some players compare it to Celeste for its responsive controls and challenging levels. 

Pepper Grinder isn’t a long game. Despite its flashy display of colors and retro visuals, it knows not to overstay its welcome. Within 6-8 hours, you can explore the game from start to finish.


<h2>13. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/turnip-boy-robs-a-bank/">Turnip Boy Robs a Bank</a></h2>
Action - 8.0


The craziest thing about Turnip Boy’s next adventure isn’t his crimes. It’s that his games keep getting better. 

The delinquent crop returns with new felonies on his checklist. This time the career criminal is all about robbing a bank, teaming up with the Pickled Gang to do the craziest heist of all time. Ever seen that one Spongebob episode? 

While it plays similarly to games like <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/hotline-miami/">Hotline Miami</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/enter-the-gungeon/">Enter the Gungeon</a>, this action roguelite doesn’t take itself seriously. It is a hilarious romp that encourages you to improvise with the tools you have.


<h2>12. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/granblue-fantasy-project-relink/">Granblue Fantasy: Relink</a></h2>
JRPG - 8.0

The latest Granblue Fantasy game takes on a whole new level of ambition. Relink is a bold new direction for the franchise. It is a massive and visually appealing RPG for new and old fans. 

Depending on your pace, the game has over 40 hours of playtime. Players can explore its grand open world with a freedom you can’t find on its mobile counterparts. It is rife with adventure and its characters are well-suited for the journey.

Once you finish the single-player story, you’ll rely on the multiplayer for post-game content. Unfortunately, it has the pitfalls of most multiplayer JRPGS. Despite removing the gacha elements, you’ll still have a tedious grind ahead of you. Some players have commented on this, citing the ‘monotonous combat’ that extends to its online experience.

But even with its shortcomings, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is still a great JRPG and a great evolution from its mobile beginnings.

<h2>11. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/expeditions-a-mudrunner-game//">Expeditions: A MudRunner Game</a></h2>
Racing - 8.1

Off-road racing games will always have a market. And if you’re looking for a new simulation racer, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game has everything you need.

What’s interesting is how challenging it is. It takes the literal ‘off-road’ driving to the test. The environments are harsh and there’s a layer of brain-teasing puzzles in each level. You’ll have to rummage for solutions to its rich content.

While critics praised its muddy charm, players weren’t too happy with it. The Steam reviews are all over the place with over a thousand reviews calling it a ‘major downgrade’ from its predecessors. 

If Expedtions has one egregious flaw, it's the microtransaction model. It was review bombed by fans for putting vehicles behind the paywall of costly DLCs.

The good news is that the devs are trying to fix ‘some’ of the issues. The coming multiplayer update promises a seamless off-road adventure to play with friends. (Do you think that’s enough to make up for it?)


<h2>10. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/helldivers-2/">Helldivers 2</a></h2>
Shooter - 8.2

The gift of managed democracy keeps giving. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/helldivers-2/">Helldivers 2</a> is a great example of a videogame that’s built for endless fun. Who wouldn’t love dropping in and out anytime to kill bugs and robots for a living? 

Its developers, Arrowhead, have mastered the live-service model with its affordable Season Passes. They even offer in-game credits you can earn by playing.

Helldivers 2 is an evolving game led by the mysterious ‘Joel’. Its active Galactic map is a playground where you can see their spread of liberty across the system. 

The game has been a constant treat so far. It already has a massive player base of over 200 thousand Helldivers who continue to spread of democracy every day. Find a few friends to play with, and you can ramp up the experience entirely. 

According to Checkpoint Gaming’s Elliot Attard, Helldivers 2’s “...cooperative shooter is engaging, charming, dynamic, and at no point feels greedy or unnecessary.” 

<h2>9. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/momodora-moonlit-farewell/">Momodora: Moonlit Farewell</a></h2>
Platformer - 8.2

This year has a lot of surprise titles that inch their way to our charts. Like Momodora: Moonlit Farewell a fantastic metroidvania that “...is a truly unique aesthetic that blends all [my] favorite things into one unforgettable package.”

The latest and final installment of the Momodora series. It improves on the previous games with its captivating pixel art style. Momo’s quest to save her Village is rife with action, with intense boss battles and action-packed gameplay that keeps the momentum going. 

With the ‘Sigil’ system, you can customize your playstyle depending on the situation. With exploration and experimentation at its core, it is a game that encourages you to think outside the box. 

Fans of cute fairy waifus will definitely want to check this out.

<h2>8. 	<a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/banishers-ghosts-of-new-eden/">Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden</a></h2>
RPG - 8.5

The latest IP from the makers of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/life-is-strange/">Life Is Strange</a>. In Banishers, DONTNOD delivers an emotional narrative about love and loss amidst the supernatural

Step into the shoes of two ghost hunters investigating an evil curse plaguing a town. DONTNOD's tough moral dilemmas come into play here and you can approach the story in various ways.

Aside from the complex choices, the combat is satisfying too. Taking down threats using spectral powers is something you don’t see a lot nowadays. 

For everything it offers, it makes you want more. It's “... a game haunted by the ghost of satisfaction – satisfaction from good gameplay and a great story.” 

It's an ambitious but unassuming action RPG. Released in the same month as some pretty big names, it might've even flown under your radar. 

<h2>7. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/prince-of-persia-the-lost-crown//">Prince of Persia The Lost Crown</a></h2>
Action - 8.8

The latest Prince Of Persia veers away from its third-person adventures, taking on a new form as a 2.5D platformer.

It leans heavily on Metroidvania elements where exploration and abilities are the key to survival. It is not a revolutionary pivot. But it’s a completely different style and they’re sticking to it for the next game: The Rogue Prince Of Persia.

Part of the charm of the original series was the signature parkour-based movement. And that remains true for this latest game. It’s a lot like Hollow Knight where you can zap across levels with swagger as long as you get the job done. 

The Lost Crown “...is a turning of the page for a traditionally Orientalist franchise, and it never sacrifices gameplay to do so.” 

<h2>6. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/persona-3-reload/">Persona 3 Reload</a></h2>
JRPG - 8.9

ATLUS continues to milk their beloved Persona franchise to this day. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. It's good milk and players are happy to drink it. 

Reload is a Remake of the 2006 PlayStation 2 classic. It redefined the series with its healthy balance of visual novel and JRPG elements. Despite its dated mechanics, Persona 3 Reload is still an upgrade thanks to its quality of life improvements and new features.

It is a complete retelling of the original story. But with new visuals and fully-voiced characters. These enhance the experience of the heavy storyline and bring us closer to its memorable cast of characters. 

<h2>5. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/horizon-forbidden-west-complete-edition/">Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition</a></h2>
Adventure - 8.9

PlayStation’s red-haired princess returns to PC. The sequel to <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/horizon-zero-dawntm-complete-edition/">Horizon Zero Dawn</a> takes Aloy to the wild Western frontier. This Complete Edition includes the Burning Shores DLC in the massive open-world journey 

There is no shortage of praise for its visuals and gameplay. The sheer scale of its open-world is impressive. And the variety of robot monsters to take down keeps it from getting stale. 

This sci-fi trip to a post-apocalyptic Earth is teeming with danger and beauty. Forbidden West really amped it up, and it’s on display in this optimized PC Port. Play it on the highest settings with the best graphics cards is a satisfying experience. 

<h2>4. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/tekken-8/">Tekken 8</a></h2>
Fighting - 9.1

The latest Tekken game paved the way for the future of modern fighting games. It LOOKS GOOD and it PLAYS GOOD. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/tekken-8/">Tekken 8</a> shakes up the traditional fighting formula with new mechanics. The new Heat System made fights much more unpredictable, for better or worse. 

At the end of the day and new players are quick to adapt, making tournaments much more exciting to watch. 

Perhaps the biggest fumble in Tekken history is the in-game shop. A lot of players were disappointed by this update and rushed to review bomb the game on Steam. 

Although the shop only sells cosmetic items, no one was too happy about the scummy prices. Plus, the fact that it was added late in the game outraged fans.

<h2>3. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/like-a-dragon-infinite-wealth/">Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth</a></h2>
RPG - 9.1

The latest Yakuza game brings ‘Infinite Wealth’. Literally. It is a haven of content that rivals their previous entries. With the number of activities in this idyllic Hawaiian escape, you can probably net over 100 hours of playtime. 

<a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/like-a-dragon-infinite-wealth/">Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth</a> is still about Ichiban and Kiryu. Their interconnected stories are brought together in this sprawling narrative of crime, drama, and comedy. Fans of the series will know what to expect, but if you're new to the game, it can be easy to get lost in the crazy shenanigans. 

For a better story experience, playing the previous games is recommended. But anyone can waltz right in and enjoy Infinite Wealth’s treasure trove of activities.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is without a doubt an impressive game. It capitalized on the strengths of the original and added tons of improvements.

Whether or not you're an RPG veteran, there's no hand-holding here. Some have even called it the next <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/elden-ring/">Elden Ring</a>.

However, it has also been a subject of controversy for the past few weeks. 

For one, even the most high-end PCs couldn’t get a good framerate. And secondly, it's the fact that it has microtransactions at all. Though complete ly optional, the idea of having them in a $70 game irked thousands of fans. 

Do you think it’s a good idea to add microtransactions to a single-player game?

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a victim of its own making. While there have been a few patches to improve framerates, the microtransactions are still there.

Since its release, it has received a barrage of negative reviews. But despite that, it still managed to top our charts.

Critics put the game in high regard, leveling the charts with ratings of 10s and 9s. 

“it is clear that Capcom has created a flawed masterpiece that might not be for everyone.” said Game Rant’s Adrian Morales.

This might come as a surprise but <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/balatro/">Balatro</a> is the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/best/2024">best PC game of 2024</a> so far. This poker-inspired roguelike is the talk of the town lately. Even burrowing into the headlines amidst triple-A giants like Dragon’s Dogma 2. 

For starters, Balatro is a roguelike. But it injects poker mechanics into its increasingly addictive gameplay loop. Players pump out illegal poker hands and break the game using outrageous combinations. 

With over 150 unique Jokers that can make or break a run, plus even more tarot cards, the possibilities are endless.

It’s a game for everyone, even those who aren’t interested in Poker. Fans of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/slay-the-spire/">Slay the Spire</a> or <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/wildfrost/">Wildfrost</a> should definitely put this on their wishlist.

Mar 20 - 7.3

1992 was the year <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/alone-in-the-dark-thq-nordic">Alone in the Dark</a> made a name for itself in the survival <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/best/horror">horror</a> genre. This Remake promised to share the same bravado as CAPCOM’s modern Resident Evil titles. 

It’s a brilliant story about the horrors of the mind. It hit the mark thanks to its psychological terrors and the wonderful performances. David Harbour and Jodie Comer did their jobs well. 

But this sparked another conversation about Remakes. This version of Alone in the Dark was marred by clunky controls and combat. The foreboding atmosphere was there, but dealing with enemies felt frustrating.

Was it better than the original? Or was it an unnecessary reimagining of a horror classic? 

<h2>14. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/insurgency-sandstorm/">Insurgency: Sandstorm</a></h2>

The <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/new/">new PS5</a> release of New World Interactive’s military <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/best/shooter/">shooter</a>. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/insurgency-sandstorm/">Insurgency: Sandstorm</a> enjoyed its time on Steam back in 2018. It was met with positive acclaim, with players praising its realistic portrayal of war--where every bullet in its team-based matches counted. 

It was one of the best military shooters out there. It was even part of our <a href="https://youtu.be/bXFzwWDfSG4">Top 10 Military Shooters</a> video from last year. 

It’s a great alternative to other shooters in the market. But do you think it is worth playing compared to more popular shooters like Call of Duty? The PS5 version doesn’t have as many players yet. Crossplay is in the works, but players can still find matches in quick play and ranked.

<h2>13. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/contra-operation-galuga/">Contra: Operation Galuga</a></h2>

A reimagining of the classic run n’ gun action game from the 80s. Contra was a household name to some gamers who grew up with it. It was this testosterone-powered platformer that birthed a generation of gun-toting gamers who love blowing stuff up.

<a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/contra-operation-galuga/">Operation Galuga</a>’s modern revisions include new stages, enemies, mechanics and co-op for up to four players. These healthy additions make this Remaster worth a try for anyone missing out on Contra’s classic shooting. 

But the kicker is that it is a $40 game. Let’s just say some players weren’t happy with the price, saying that it couldn’t be more than a $15-20 title. Some even called out the lack of an online multiplayer. 

Sure, the nostalgia factor will obviously have people obsessed. But in this economy, should a Remaster of a four-decade old game cost this much? 

<h2>12. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/rise-of-the-ronin/">Rise of Ronin</a></h2>

Team Ninja’s latest foray into the Samurai genre. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/rise-of-the-ronin/">Rise Of Ronin</a> focuses on Japan’s pivotal ‘Bakumatsu’ period. This slow end to the Shogunate. It’s an interesting setting, giving players a fresher perspective on Japan’s history. 

As for its gameplay, it went for the familiar Soulslike approach. You can parry attacks and perform powerful combos. What sets it apart from the older entries is the open-world approach. Players can traverse Japan’s three major cities. 

But is it a victim of its own ambitions? Unfortunately, no matter how gorgeous its visuals are, exploring is a lifeless journey. It suffers from that dated open-world structure where there’s really not much to do.

Rise Of Ronin is a great game but whatever its successes were, it was despite its sparse world.

<h2>11. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/rise-of-the-ronin/">Dragon’s Dogma 2</a></h2>

CAPCOM’s latest triple A adventure, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/rise-of-the-ronin/">Dragon’s Dogma 2</a> was met with almost universal acclaim. Offering little to no handholding, some critics even called it the next <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/elden-ring/">Elden Ring</a>.

Its open world is vast and full of rich details. The fantasy setting is gorgeous and soaked in the lure of adventure. Combat is flashy and the Vocations are so much like in Monster Hunter. Even the classic Pawn system is improved with AI.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 was almost what CAPCOM wanted it to be… It really was. Except for a few issues: 

It was another victim of bad optimization. On release, it had jarring performance issues. Framerates could fluctuate from 30s to 40s at any given moment. With the uncapped framerates on the PS5, it was an inconsistent mess. On PC, even the latest GPUs couldn’t handle its scale. 

The list of questionable decisions went on, and it led to another discourse: microtransactions. Items like fast-travel stones had to be purchased separately. Although they don’t really matter since you can get them in-game. What irks us is its existence at all, in a single-player title. Was it really necessary? 

<h2>10. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/banishers-ghosts-of-new-eden/">Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden</a></h2>
Feb 13 - 8.6

The original creators of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/life-is-strange/">Life Is Strange</a> dabble in supernatural action RPG. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/banishers-ghosts-of-new-eden">Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden</a>, a completely new IP from DONTNOD, veers away from its traditional linear storytelling. 

It tells a compelling story about love and loss. Brought to life by a well-written cast of characters with solid performances. The branching narrative asks the big questions and hurls you into a moral dilemma.

The combat is great, too. It matches the narrative with spectral abilities that can turn you into a badass ghost hunter.

The catch is its lackluster open-world. Once the allure of its premise wears off, there’s really not much to do. Aside from that, it is also marred by performance issues. In select areas, the framerates can drop to 30, even in Performance Mode.

Despite that, Banishers is still an ambitious feat from DONTNOD. It is a major upgrade from its formula. But with so many games in the market, it’s easy for games like these to fly under the radar.

Outlast is evolving its horror storytelling in new ways. Far from the usual singleplayer style, Outlast Trials is a full-blown multiplayer game

An AI-controlled stalker roams the level. Forcing you and three others into a terrifying game of hide and seek. 

It successfully captures the fear and claustrophobia of the previous games. Only this time, other people are joining in on the horror. It’s best played with friends. 

Fans of the series will find something to enjoy here. But anyone who’s waiting for the next single-player Outlast game might have to wait longer. This is a game built for the long run with an ongoing live-service model. The good news is that there aren’t any egregious microtransactions so far.

<a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/helldivers-2/">Helldivers 2</a> has been the talk of the town for the past few weeks. It checks out every box on the ‘consumer-friendly videogame’ list: it costs 40 dollars, the battle pass can be obtained in-game, and most importantly, IT IS FUN. 

There’s nothing more satisfying than spreading Liberty across the galaxy. By Liberty we mean shooting alien bugs and robots until they’re completely eradicated. 

Fighting to hell and back with three other players is Helldivers 2 at its best. Whether it's dropping 500kg nukes, or raining bullets on unsuspecting Terminids. 

The ensuing hilarity of blowing up bugs in the name of Democracy makes Helldivers 2 a fun game to play with friends.

<h2>7. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/wwe-2k24/">WWE 2K24</a></h2>

This year’s Wrestlemania set its sights on Cody Rhodes. The son of a son of a plumber and late professional wrestling Legend Dusty Rhodes is WWE 2K24’s cover athlete. 

This is the latest entry into 2K’s annual wrestling celebration. 2K24 aims to be their biggest game yet. Boasting over 200 superstars and a staggering amount of content.

It is a comprehensive package that has something for everybody. WWE fan or not. 

The enhanced gameplay adds more immersion in the ring. And you can experiment with new match types and improved MyGM modes. If you want to express your love for the franchise, you can do it with its many customization options. 

There are a few noticeable bugs here and there. But the performance issues that plagued the PC version isn't as noticeable on PS5.

<h2>6. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/prince-of-persia-the-lost-crown/">Prince of Persia The Lost Crown</a></h2>

The new Prince Of Persia isn’t what anyone expected.

The Lost Crown shifts from the full 3D of classic Prince of Persia to a 2.5D perspective. Looking and playing similarly to <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/hollow-knight/">Hollow Knight</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/metroid-prime-remastered/">Metroid</a>. 

The refined parkour-based movement comes with more intuitive controls. Now, you can really feel like a cool warrior as you zip across levels. 

It looks like the change in style is working, with high scores across all platforms. Some critics compare its success to Sands of Time, which brought the series into 3D. 

"Nearly every part of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown works so well...that it feels as if the series has found its new genre home."

The Lost Crown is a fully <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/single-player/">single-player PS5 </a>experience with zero microtransactions. Quite the achievement, knowing Ubisoft is no stranger to shady practices.

<h2>5. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/tekken-8/">Tekken 8</a></h2>

New-gen Tekken is bringing fighting games to a new level. 

Tekkn 8 expands the tight fighting mechanics with a new Heat system. The footsies and 50/50s are one thing. But with Heat, you get agressive plays that can shift the advantage at any point in the match.

The iconic roster also got a fresh redesign and they all look amazing thanks to the Unreal Engine 5. New characters like Victor and Reina are some of the standouts in the default cast.

Tekken 8's Season DLCs bring more features, balance updates and characters. Eddy Gordo, the Season 1 DLC character, brought a mean presence to the arena.

One of the most controversial additions in Tekken 8 is the Shop. An in-game store where you can buy cosmetics with real money. 

Although the cosmetics are purely aesthetic, it's seriously a doozy if you wanted to earn it the usual way.

<h2>4. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/unicorn-overlord/">Unicorn Overlord</a></h2>

Vanillaware always exceeds expectations. Their latest IP, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/unicorn-overlord/">Unicorn Overlord,</a> is no different.

Its answer to tactical JRPGs, Unicorn Overlord manages to hit every mark in its 40 hours of playtime. The visuals alone feels like Vanillaware at its peak.

While the real-time strategy doesn't reinvent the wheel, its new mechanics do give it an added layer of complexity.

It also has interesting story, peeling apart the usual fantasy tropes. It still feels like Vanillaware's usual quirky 'anime' style, but its balanced out by an engaging story and satisfying gameplay

<h2>3. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/persona-3-reload/">Persona 3 Reload</a></h2>

Speaking of RPGs. ATLUS’ Remake of one of PlayStation 2’s best titles finally graced the modern generation. Persona 3 Reload is a testament to the timelessness of the original.

It has a lot of quality-of-life changes, especially in its visuals and gameplay.

But it preserves everything else from the 2006 classic. The story, its characters, and its bittersweet ending are all the same. 

Reload shines with its fully voice-acted narrative. What once was a straight-up PS2 visual novel feels so much more modern. The voice actors bring new life and personality to the characters we love.

All that, plus the remastered soundtrack and fresh tunes, makes this the best way to play Persona 3 today.

The anticipated FES expansion is coming this September. It adds a dramatic epilogue to our favorite characters.

<h2>2. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/like-a-dragon-infinite-wealth/">Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth</a></h2>

Thanks to RGG, the Yakuza games are almost synonymous with over-the-top shenanigans. Infinite Wealth has even more up its sleeve. 

Its open-world Hawaii is a haven of crazy antics. And despite all the absurdity, this is one of Asogi and Kiryu's most unforgettable adventures yet.

It has everything a modern RPG needs. Excellent turn-based combat, a lovable cast, and a post-game that's full to the brim with activities. It is a full-course meal with tons of side dishes.

If there's one problem you might have, it's that you might not have to enjoy everything it offers

With a playscore of 9.4, critics and gamers have called it ‘the best version of Final Fantasy VII’ so far. And part of its success is the remake's fleshed out narrative, stretched into three parts. 

The developers clearly poured the heart into the characters and story. We can identify each character's motivations and their emotional arcs made us feel so much for them.

It is a rollercoaster of a narrative that can go from environmental drama to Tifa doing sit-ups. 

Rebirth made a lot of improvements on its combat. With Synergy Abilities, there are new ways to beat Sephiroth’s ass. 

It's also MASSIVE. The shift to open-world opened the floodgates of activities for Cloud and friends.

But if you just want to enjoy the story, the amount of content can get overwhelming. Sometimes the minigames can even be a little too much. It can even break the game's careful pacing. Would you agree?

Red Hook Studios announced that <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/darkest-dungeon-ii/">Darkest Dungeon II</a> is heading to PlayStation this July 15.

This <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/upcoming/">upcoming PS5 game</a> is a sequel to the acclaimed turn-based <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/best/roguelike/">roguelike</a> and a continuation of the game's Lovecraftian roadtrip. Aboard the stagecoach, players embark on a grim world teetering on the brink of collapse.

Players must manage the mental fortitude and physical well-being of its heroes. Darkest Dungeon II retains the sanity mechanic from the original. This key resource is a necessity to brave through the horrors of the road ahead. 

Tyler Sigman, Design Director for Red Hook Studios is “...very eager to bring Darkest Dungeon II to PlayStation players”. 

He further stated that “The game feels great with DualSense Controller–we’ve been able to add touches like feeling the heartbeat of a hero on death’s door, or the rumble of the stagecoach’s wheels as it hits a trap…”

The game features a thrilling journey across five major campaigns. Known as ‘Confessions”, each campaign has their own terrifying boss and mechanics. 

Players can now choose from a total of 14 playable heroes. These include the Duelist and the Crusader. This gives more options for players to master the battlefield and survive the doom and gloom. 

A new progression system called ‘the Altar of Hope’ will aid brave adventurers. These permanent buffs range from increased resistances from Bleeding to HP enhancing gifts. A resource called the Candles of Hope is necessary to buy these powerful buffs. These “meta-game” upgrades greatly affect the difficulty of the long and winding journey. 

The first Darkest Dungeon released on PlayStation 4 back on September 27, 2016. With its playscore of 8.8, it's currently one of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/best/rpg">the best PS4 RPGs</a>. Critics and players praised its high replay-value, challenging gameplay, and grim art style. 

The game's first DLC, The Binding Blade, is available to buy separately or under the Oblivion Bundle. Both will be available as cross-buy across PlayStation 4 and 5.

The game features 12 Olympic sports that players can unlock. These range from swimming, fencing, gymnastics, and so much more. 

It won't be as involved as <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/nintendo-switch-sports/">Switch Sports</a>, one of the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/best/">best Switch games</a>, each of these provide thrilling mini-games to enjoy. Players can compete in these sporting events to gain medals.

Similar to <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/simcity/">SimCity</a>, players can construct their own personal cities to achieve a thriving olympic community. These unlock benefits to players’ sprawling athletic community. 

These include better resources and a morale boost for athletes to gain a competitive edge. 

Players can also earn Fan points through skillful management and success in its 12 sporting events. These are necessary to upgrade venues and level up the community. 

The game is gearing up for its release this June to iOS, Android and PC. A soft launch period is available this month. Players can pre-register via the app store or the Olympics™ Go! Paris 2024 website and unlock exclusive in-game items.

'SteamWorld Heist II' Sets Sail for August Release

The epic-high seas adventure of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/steamworld-heist-ii/">SteamWorld Heist II</a> is coming this August 8. The crewmates return in this indie-game about pirates and Steambots. 

Developers Thunderful announced its much anticipated sequel to one of the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/best/">best games on PlayStation</a>, SteamWorld Heist. 

SteamWorld Heist II takes players into a thrilling new hand-crafted voyage into the high-seas.

Players step into the shoes of Captain Leeway alongside his ragtag crew of Steambots. 

This sequel opens its doors to new horizons, above and below. According to the game’s description, “[players] set sail to solve the mystery of a deadly water crisis that’s causing metal limbs and mechanical hearts to corrode.”

Longtime fans of the series will see the return of the game's intense turn-based combat. This signature gameplay mechanic lets players ricochet bullets with deadly precision. It also comes with a hilarious cast of characters and a unique campaign that tests tactical wit. 

“Millions of players have gravitated toward SteamWorld Heist’s unique gameplay and art style, and fallen in love with its original story, characters and music,” said Brjánn Sigurgeirsson, the franchise director. 

This sequel also comes with new features such as the new Job system. This addition lets players customize their crewmates abilities and equipment. These pave the way towards greater levels of strategizing with limitless possibilities. 

SteamWorld Heist II offers a staggering 35 plus hours of gameplay. Meaning there will be more for players to explore. Players can switch between missions by controlling the crew’s submarine in real-time. Now, they have more reason to uncover secrets or gather reputation along the way. The high-seas will be a much more challenging adventure. 

The original game SteamWorld Heist came out in 2016. It was available on platforms like 3DS, Wii U and PlayStation Vita. It received acclaim on all platforms, receiving its highest playscore of 9.1 on the PS Vita.

SteamWorld Heist II will launch on August 8, 2024 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Steam. It is also Steam Deck verified.

11 bit Studios invites players who pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition of Frostpunk 2 to play now. This Limited Access Beta will last until April 22, giving players a sneak peek into the award-winning <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/best/city-builder/">city-builder</a>. 

This week-long Beta will feature a portion of the sandbox mode known as the ‘Utopia Builder Preview’. 

In this mode, players can get a slice of Frostpunk 2 They can create their ideal city in the midst of the biting cold. They must also reconcile conflicting interests and navigate societal complexities.

This limited access Beta will only cover the basics of its city-builder mechanics. It will not include any part of the game's story.

Ultimately, human nature can lead to the city's downfall, where one's utopia may become another's dystopia.

Beta access started on April 15. Access to the Beta is included with pre-orders to the Digital Deluxe edition of Frostpunk 2.

In the latest video, creator 3D Realms showcases the first-person shooter gameplay of Phantom Fury, as well as some of its important features.

‘Phantom Fury’ is a high-octane first-person shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world. It is the sequel to 2019's <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/ion-fury/">Ion Fury</a>, and takes inspiration from classic FPS titles like <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/duke-nukem-3d-20th-anniversary-world-tour/">Duke Nukem</a>and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/half-life-2/">Half-Life</a>. 

This highly interactive world is full of immersive activities. This includes hacking computers, flying helicopters and playing arcade machines.

Players take on the role of Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison, first introduced in Ion Fury. She can decimate foes using her trusty Bionic Arm. With it, Shelly can stun, block and damage her enemies. 

Her arm is not the only weapon she can wield. Shelly also has a handful of other heavy firearms. With over 20 weapons, players can mix and match their playstyle depending on the situation. Some of these guns, like the Loverboy Revolver, are fan favorites from the original.

The the gameplay video also explains Phantom Fury's relevance to Ion Fury. The creators claim that it is a standalone adventure. As a spin-off sequel, it's story is completely separate from the overarching story of the original.

Phantom Fury will launch on PC via Steam for the price of $24.99. However, 3D realms is also planning to release the game on <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/upcoming/">PS5</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/upcoming/">Xbox Series X</a>, and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/upcoming/">Switch</a>.
