Chronos is an atmospheric RPG that chronicles one young hero’s lifelong quest to save their homeland from a great evil. Central to this quest is an ancient labyrinth, which holds the secrets necessary to restore life and peace to their home. However, the architects of this labyrinth designed it to open only once a year. The labyrinth is a test, and each time the hero fails they are cast out and must wait one year to return.

Fighting my way through that labyrinth kept me enraptured for 15 hours, and by the end all I really wanted was more. Chronos keeps things intentionally tight, with only a few weapons to find and upgrade and very little in the way of NPCs to interact with, but it’s still the longest, meatiest game made for VR that I’ve played.
Chronos' flaws are obvious, but thankfully few and far between. When you push your way through its more annoying aspects, it welcomes you with enticingly grim set pieces and tense encounters. It's a highly-rewarding game that proves you can leverage VR to enhance traditional games, but Chronos doesn't use it as a crutch; it stands tall all on its own.
Chronos is a challenging, calculated adventure through intricate dungeons and relentless enemies that demand your best attention. Where it falls short as an RPG, Chronos redeems itself by offering beautiful environments and a sense of scale that probably can’t exist without virtual reality.
