Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is a singleplayer story-driven deckbuilding RPG with card-based combat and a huge open world full of interesting stories, NPCs, and monsters to explore.
NimbleThor · Jun 23, 2021 Reviewed on iOSRead full reviewThronebreaker’s transition to the Nintendo Switch seems relatively seamless, playing just fine on both handheld and docked modes. It is a shame that there was no implementation of the touchscreen, especially for the card battles themselves, but outside of this one small complaint, the game plays great.
Mike Splechta · Mar 03, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full reviewIt's a polished, story-driven experience that has a lot going for it. It's not a masterpiece, and there are some minor gripes, such as the difficulty (or lack thereof) and the absence of meaningful decision-making, but it is still an incredibly entertaining game. If you're into The Witcher and on the lookout for another story in the same universe, you can't go wrong with Thronebreaker.
Andreas Salmen · Feb 24, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full reviewLack of touchscreen support aside, this is still Thronebreaker, but on a portable console. It’s a smaller scale spinoff made with more care than most companies out there put into their flagship titles. This is a perfect fit for the Switch: a big fat RPG with characters to talk to, cards to acquire, sidequests to complete, and a lot of card battles to partake in. Or not, as there is the choice of skipping everything if that’s actually what you want. I ain’t judging.
Leo Faria · Feb 14, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full reviewThronebreaker : The Witcher Tales is a phenomenal game that can be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys card games or even puzzle games. The port to the Switch was a wonderful decision, but no matter where you play Thronebreaker, you are in for a fantastic experience.
Jonathan Paris · Feb 13, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchNom Nom Apocalypse is a fast paced and personality filled twin stick shooter. But battling it out against an enraged buffet of beasts goes stale quickly – even with a friend. Without enough variety to make each repeat of dungeons feel exciting or alluring, we’re afraid this will cause players to walk away from this smorgasbord before long.
David Lloyd · Feb 12, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full reviewWhile the Nintendo Switch does, at times, struggle to handle Thronebreaker, its pick up and play accessibility make it perfectly suited for the on-the-go console. Technical constraints and sometimes cumbersome ‘smaller screen’ over world design aside, this is one that is easy to recommend. Prerequisite knowledge of series lore or experience with previous entries isn’t necessary.
Dave Lambden · Feb 04, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full reviewWhile utilising the ruleset of a more traditional CCG system might put off some players, the on-brand approach to turn-based combat in Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is still a positive addition to the world. Because with such an involved and intricately designed story – and such an interesting world to explore beyond the confines of Geralt – Thronebreaker offers the opportunity to lose yourself in the Continent like never before.
Dom Reseigh-Lincoln · Jan 31, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full reviewThronebreaker: The Witcher Tales slots into the world in which it’s set magnificently well. The game’s writing and its pacing is top notch, collectively pushing forward a story that’s deep, unique, and thoroughly engaging. Minor and infrequent framerate issues to the side, Thronebreaker offers an exceptional adventure, a compelling RPG, and above all else, a rich and entertaining card battling experience.
Anthony Cole · Dec 23, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full reviewThronebreaker: The Witcher Tales features some of the sharpest writing on PS4, and it's all embedded within a superb story stuffed with brilliant characters. Meanwhile, Gwent makes up most of the gameplay, and although the card-based system does have flaws, it's easy enough to look past them when the surrounding journey is so masterfully told. Ultimately, Thronebreaker is an easy recommendation for Witcher enthusiasts and fans of strategic RPGs -- a surprisingly robust and rich tale that shouldn't be overlooked.

I'll start with the good part: this game has the best story-telling and desicion-making I've seen in any game. But, I'd say that's one of the probably only three things I find it good, along with nice puzzles, and good Gwent online game rewards. Now the bad stuff: gameplay is repetitive and easily breakable with certain combos even in the highest difficulty. And, for people that do not like reading at all, this is definitely not your game. I enjoyed it, but I would only reccomend it to someone looking for a good story with interactions than someone who wants a good game.
