This game was the best game I played when I was young.

There might be some minor spoilers ahead.

Without internet, I used to play and replay the campaign, and some matches against the AI. So, still to this day, is the story what calls me the most.

The setting are known by everyone: Three species, terrans, zerg, and protoss, fight each other for supremacy in a sector of the galaxy. Races are implemented very well, they are balanced and fun.

The game plays as a RTS where you build your base, collect resources, discover tecnologies, and create units. Then, you fight with the other players on the map until only one is left.

The zerg command small units, and a lot of them. The protoss have large, very expensive units, and the terrans are somewhere in the middle, with small and very useful units like the marine, and very large machines, like the battlecruiser.

The story is very well rounded, and very well told. All the actors are good, even when there is not much to do, since the story in game is told via face communication before every mission, and some face communication in the game. Some parts of the story are surprising, and you can get attached to most of the characters, especially Arcturus Mengsk, the man we all love to hate.

The units themselves all have a personallity that make them very distinguishable. For example, the tank for the terrans unit is a big brawler fighter who sang 'March of the valkiries' when entering combat. Protoss have lots of drones and robots handled by AI. From the zergs, the most known are the participants of the zerg rush, zerglings, which are small, dog like units. But they also have the ultralisk, a large cow size monster who screams in battle and destroys everything.

The story campaign have ten individual mission for terrans, ten for zergs and ten for protoss, they don't mix and go in order, with the last moment of the story being told at the last mission of the protoss. Most of the missions are great, although since the terran campaign is the first, it feels a little tutorially, and there is no real challenge for them (Although this is somewhat fixed in the last missions of the game). The campaign almost never feel slow, I feel frustrated on some particular missions (Zerg vs Dark Templar and Protoss vs Protoss missions come to mind), but that was just me, and after playing it so much.

Another very good part of this game is the map editor, which is EPIC (In caps lock). It have everything, audio logs, story logs, a much varied ai difficulty, map placements, etcetcetc. You can make a whole new, very quality campaign from all that it have.

The music is also excellent, to me, the terran music is the best, but the "hum hum" of the zerg song is really hard to forget.

So, 10/10, for everything, story, game, music, map editor, influence of the game on the future, it's all good, go play it!

This game introduced me to video games. The excitement of playing RTS with local multiplayer. Knowing the best strategies and having advantages. I still remember all the fun & ZERG RUSH! No one forgets those tiny little zerlings.
