This game was my introduction to the monster hunter franchise and wow, it was not only an excellent game but it was super fun! It had me playing for hours on end, learning combos, getting better gear and most importantly hunting monsters. Highly recommend you get this game.

Monster Hunter Rise

Me pareció lento.

Monster Hunter Rise is an excellent game that has rekindled my love for monster hunting games. While I've dabbled in other games in the series since the PSP era, Rise is the first game that's truly hooked me since then. The wirebug mechanic adds an entirely new layer of mobility and verticality to the gameplay, which makes hunting large monsters feel more dynamic and satisfying. The arcade-y vibe of the game is a great way to play, and it's perfect for when you just want to take on some big monsters without a lot of fuss. The faster-paced combat is also a welcome change for the series.

The port of Monster Hunter Rise to the PS5/X-series is also a marvelous improvement over the OG Switch game. The graphics shine on next-gen hardware, and the arenas are even prettier and more detailed than before. It makes the already impressive visuals that much more immersive.

However, the Rampage system didn't do it for me. I'm not a fan of this mode and wish that it was optional content instead of being integrated into the main missions. Additionally, the map in Rise shows the exact location of monsters, which takes away from the sense of discovery and exploration that previous games in the series were known for. Hunting down a monster by tracking its movements and gathering clues was a crucial part of the Monster Hunter experience for many fans, and the absence of this feature in Rise may be a disappointment for those players.

Despite these minor drawbacks, Monster Hunter Rise is an outstanding game. The quality of life improvements, new mechanics, great visuals, and fast-paced combat make it the ideal entry point for players into the series. While some of the new systems might not be for everyone, it's a minor flaw in a terrific game that I have already sunk over 100 hours into and show no signs of slowing down

P.S. Fuck permabuffers!!!! Such an awful feature. :rage:

Wirebug your way to epic monster battles!

Before we begin, I just want to mention a few things.

I've been playing MH since DOS on the PS2 (which was hell since it is in Japanese) so you can say that I am a, how do I say, second gen player.

And another thing I should mention is that I am all into changes and innovations. However, to an extent.

So, lets go over the bad. I dislike the wirebug system. The game forces you to use it. And if you think you can go through the game without it, you will be surprised on your first Chameleos or Valstrax fight on how important it is to use it.

Next the Rampages. What a god awful feature to add to the MH series. It felt such a chore to go through in campaign.

The Apex monster is total trash fire. You wanna know how the Apex monsters should have been in Rise? Take a look at what they did to Apex monster in MH4U. They don't even give you any materials for Apex gear. Boo!

The weapon skills. Good lord, I never used any single one. If you want to bring something different in combat, then bring back the hunter arts in generations.

The companion system. I would have enjoyed it if they were there simply as a "mount" or extra gatherer on gathering missions. But in a team of four, each player can bring a companion in the hunt. And when that happens, the game douses your eyeballs with all there attack effects blazing from the screen. Its an eyesore.

So, lets go over the good.

Well, they brought back Chameleos. Fighting him in Rise brought back so many memories when I first fought him in DOS.

Kamura Village itself is far more interesting and lively compared to World or Iceborne's Astera or Seliana.

Gameplay itself is still fun. I can never hate the combat gameplay that MH games offer. The strategy to wait for an opening before the strike is simple and fun for me.

The Elder Dragon blessings. I think this was a great addition to the skills offered to players and add a unique theme to how players want to play there characters.

So...all in all. Is it worth playing.

Yes. It definitely is. But, is this the game to start your first monster hunter experience? No. Definitely not. I would suggest you start on MH4U. That game offers way more Rise could ever dream to. More content and challenge that is.

A haven for fivers!

It's even better on the PC.

Monster Hunter Rise is a surprising new direction for the future of CAPCOM's best-selling franchise. Rise removes most of its dull features (Hot Drinks, Excessive Grinding, Travel) in favor of a more streamlined monster hunting experience. The amount of quality of life changes makes the experience less frustrating and doesn't disrupt its core gameplay loop: which is hunting monsters.

Rise even pushed movement even further with two additions: the Wirebug and the Palamute, your dog companion. Traversing around its treacherous locales is made even easier with these two important additions. You can even use them in combat, and it requires mastery.

New players will find this less intimidating compared to its big brother, Monster Hunter World/Iceborne.

This PC release doesn't only improve performance, pumping its frames to more than 30, it's also the definitive way to play this game in my opinion. The visual overhaul, the 4K support and a smooth-sailing online experience (without Nintendo Online) makes monster hunting a little less stressful. My only concern is that it didn't really add anything significant in terms of gameplay and content. It's JUST a PC port.

But nonetheless, I can't wait for their Sunbreak expansion.
