Monster Hunter Rise is an excellent game that has rekindled my love for monster hunting games. While I've dabbled in other games in the series since the PSP era, Rise is the first game that's truly hooked me since then. The wirebug mechanic adds an entirely new layer of mobility and verticality to the gameplay, which makes hunting large monsters feel more dynamic and satisfying. The arcade-y vibe of the game is a great way to play, and it's perfect for when you just want to take on some big monsters without a lot of fuss. The faster-paced combat is also a welcome change for the series.

The port of Monster Hunter Rise to the PS5/X-series is also a marvelous improvement over the OG Switch game. The graphics shine on next-gen hardware, and the arenas are even prettier and more detailed than before. It makes the already impressive visuals that much more immersive.

However, the Rampage system didn't do it for me. I'm not a fan of this mode and wish that it was optional content instead of being integrated into the main missions. Additionally, the map in Rise shows the exact location of monsters, which takes away from the sense of discovery and exploration that previous games in the series were known for. Hunting down a monster by tracking its movements and gathering clues was a crucial part of the Monster Hunter experience for many fans, and the absence of this feature in Rise may be a disappointment for those players.

Despite these minor drawbacks, Monster Hunter Rise is an outstanding game. The quality of life improvements, new mechanics, great visuals, and fast-paced combat make it the ideal entry point for players into the series. While some of the new systems might not be for everyone, it's a minor flaw in a terrific game that I have already sunk over 100 hours into and show no signs of slowing down

P.S. Fuck permabuffers!!!! Such an awful feature. :rage:
