  • Inscryption is a game that divides players, falling into the love-it-or-hate-it category. As avid gamers ourselves, we were captivated from the very beginning. It flawlessly combines the joy of deck building, deck construction, and rogue-lite elements, gradually evolving into an impressive and exhilarating experience. Prepare to be captivated by this extraordinary game that will ignite your imagination and leave an indelible impression.

  • Inscryption did the impossible, it made me want to buy a booster pack of a card game. Not even a particular card game, but just any so I could relive the feeling of buying them as a kid and seeing what I’d get. Maybe I’ll even boot up a run of Rogue Legacy since it’s been a few years.

  • It’s a game within a game. You’ll unlock more video clips as you go along and start to see the real charm of the game, the horror story that lies under the gameplay.

  • Inscryption, with its unique theming, storytelling and brilliant gameplay managed to break this loop for me. You might be wondering why I haven’t mentioned the story too much up until now, but that’s because it is something told over time that I think is best experienced in person.

  • It’s hard to talk about the specifics of Inscryption without diluting some of its magic. However, its ingenuity is mind-boggling, its mood is devilishly haunting and its presentation is first-rate. As a deck builder, it’s stretched about as far as it can go, and by jumping around between concepts it sometimes asks for a lot of from the player.

  • I’m not entirely sure how I feel about Inscryption‘s second act. Some of the charm and atmosphere that it created so well in the first hours is lost, which can initially be a little disappointing.

  • Inscryption appears to be a very niche roguelite deck-building card game. But it turns into so much more. It’s a must play for anyone who is a fan of experimental videogame storytelling. Anyone remotely curious, who enjoys a great mystery, should also play without hesitation. This is the highest review score I’ve given in a while, and I wasn’t drawn to the base gameplay at all. Inscryption is a special game, and a wholly unique experience. It’s going to be remembered as a benchmark of videogame storytelling years from now. I could not be more shocked or impressed.

  • Inscryption is a great card battler, but to even call it that sells what is a truly unique experience short. If you're at all interested in what else it has to offer, close this webpage, boot up your PS5, and buy the game. Keep yourself in the dark. You're better off for it.

  • Inscryption is a meager $20 on Steam, and I honestly wish they would have charged more for it. I would have paid far more for it. It hasn’t won several awards for nothing! With that being said, I do appreciate the pricing because it makes the game available to more of their audience that might not have been able to afford it. If you’re at all hesitant, don’t be. Just do it. Take the leap, and play Inscryptionfor yourself.

  • The art design and the audio design are also top-notch. Expect to see this on plenty of GOTY lists as well as GOTY discussions because what I think Inscryption is extremely well done both in narrative and gameplay.

I was drawn to this game by of its spooky vibe and interesting cardgame mechanics. What I didn't expect was that I'd suck so much at playing cards against bosses. It was so bad I couldn't even get through the second boss. As much as I loved the fun first bits of woodland exploration and getting new powerful cards after every failed runthrough...it got really after the tenth try. Now I know that's my fault and many have gotten through the first part fairly easily. I just wish it was a little more forgiving. Guides were not helping me through the infinite possibilities of a card battle. I wanted to keep learning about my mysterious card dealer. The sentient cards, seemingly stuck in a curse. I wanted to explore the weird 4th wall breaking parts more. It's all very interesting and I do wish more people experience it. But for me, it's practically impossible.

Very well made roguelike deckbuilding game. Deconstructs the genre. Similar in many ways to Undertale. Don't read too much about it before playing.

About the game

Inscryption is an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie. Darker still are the secrets inscrybed upon the cards...
