Overall, DNF Duel was and still is one of the most aesthetically pleasing games I’ve played in a long time and one of the better ports on the Nintendo Switch, taking everything there was to love about the game while still retaining its sleek gameplay and killer sense of style.
Greg Peterson · May 02, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full reviewDNF Duel had the potential to be a great fighting game for beginners, but is far too shallow and unbalanced to be competitive in. Even so, it’s good for a more casual and laid back experience with some great visuals.
David Flynn · Apr 27, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full reviewAs it stands, DNF:Duel is not a fighter I will continue to play as it’s not the kind of experience I’m looking for in a fighting game. However, that is not to say that I don’t see the value in having a game where bombastic, overtuned characters do dumb things to each other as I don’t believe every fighter needs to be meticulously balanced and brutally deep to have a place in the FGC. All that really means is that I’ll just be watching instead of playing.
Jae Lee · Jul 28, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full reviewOverall, DNF Duel succeeds at being a great and entertaining fighting game with amazing animations, beautiful character models, and engaging combat despite sporting less fleshed out mechanics than the developer’s other titles.
Abdul Saad · Jul 25, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full reviewAll in all, DNF Duel is a raucously enjoyable fighter in spite of its seemingly haphazard design. Eighting, ArcSys, and Neople have thrown a lot of moves and systems at the wall to see what sticks while also simplifying the high-execution hijinks of other titles. It's not a mechanically deep fighting game, and some genre veterans might get bored fast, but DNF Duel succeeds as an entry point for other players who've been intimidated by the skill barrier and overwhelming meta of other fighters. While the post-launch support and competitive future of DNF Duel are still unknown, at least everyone can have fun hitting each other with their over-the-top attacks in the meantime.
Connor Trinske · Jul 12, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full reviewThe more time you spend learning characters and their moves, the more glorious online matches become. Keeping an eye on your opponent’s MP gauge will let you know what they are and aren’t capable of at any given moment, and knowing the reach of each Awakened move can make all the difference between a win and a loss. This is all easy and pleasurable to learn, because each character is just so damn fun to play as.
Luke Kemp · Jul 06, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full reviewDNF Duel is an approachable, explosive fighting game. Although it doesn't quite stand out from the crowd in terms of having an instantly recognisable style, it's great fun to actually play — at least when you're the one attacking. Crazy combos, a cool character roster, and a nice selection of game modes makes for an appealing package.
Robert Ramsey · Jul 05, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full reviewDNF Duel is a broken fighting game that lives by the philosophy of "Everyone's busted, so it's balanced." The game is going to push the right buttons for a lot of fighting game enthusiasts. At the same time, its mechanics are easily approachable for casual audiences who want to see cool moves executed easily. I believe that the game will be in the same category as games like Fantasy Strike in terms of accessibility (it will also be better than Fantasy Strike overall).
Ule Lopez · Jul 03, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full reviewDNF Duel not only excels as a fighting game, but it also reinforces the versatility of the entire genre through its adaptation of an established IP into a whole new experience.
Jason Fanelli · Jun 30, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full reviewBetween the well-adapted cast of characters, stages, and music from Dungeon Fighter Online, this is both a love letter to DFO fans, as well as a quality and accessible fighting game to boot. It will be interesting to see how much longevity this game has in it, though. Where some characters have risen to the top in past fighting games with enough exploration and discovery, DNF Duel feels a little too easy to crack. It’s the most unbalanced of any Arc System Works fighter I’ve played in recent memory, and that makes me concerned for its community health. That said, it’s still a fun fighting game to play with good offline modes to boot.

Have you even heard of this game prior to posting this review? Maybe you have seen this from an AD of a PlayStation4 game. But as a series, have you heard of DNF Duel? Do you even know what DNF means? DNF Duel is a spin-off of the Dungeon & Fighter series, one of their famous games is Dungeon Fighter Online. DNF Duel was developed by the same developer who made BlazBlue series and the Guilty Gear series. This game is a fighting genre consists of 15 characters with 1 addition character and will be playable through gameplay. Artwork is great on the Switch even of its limitation of the screen. Once docked, you may see some scaling on some of the characters if you look at them close up. And that small issue out of the way, the graphics is beautiful. Arc System Works did it again with what there are good best, anime fighting games. Gameplaywise is ok. It's not like STREET FIGHTER. But if you are beginner in fighting game, I can recommend this game. There is not much to learn in playing this game if you have issues in knowing each character's move. This is accessible on the menu where it is available for every character. Each character has their own type of fighting and most of them carries a weapon in reflect of their fighting style and occupation in the game. With that in mind, for those who carries long weapon, they will be slow when swinging their arsenal and also will be take big damage to your health meter. I tried Online Gaming, but I did not get any players who are online at the time of this review. Maybe it is because it's not as popular as the other fighting games, or maybe because it is just recently released for people to get and play. I dont have much to say about the Story Mode and the Music of this game. It is somewhat too generic and is like it tries to copy some of the famous fighting games we all know. Because of the uniqueness of the characters in the game, hopefully they will polish it in the next iteration of the game and make more characters. The game is fun to play because of the graphics and artwork. If you have an arcade fighting stick, this is a great game to play competitively. Beginners can still enjoy this game, but I would rather hone your skills on the more famous fighting games instead. It is not a great seller if you are a beginner in the genre. The title itself is not that known to people to just want to mash buttons and play like RYU or KEN. If you have a Nintendo Switch and want to play fighting games, GET THIS! I can recommend this if you are a Fighting Game Enthusiast.
