Summary

You’ll play as Nessa & Demelza as they explore an ancient island with their pet goose Captain Honkers, riding and upgrading their bikes on a quest for answers. As the story unfolds they’ll face hazards, puzzles, and the gathering forces of an ancient curse with their growing collection of frisbees, water-balloons, toilet-plungers, and a boom-box loud enough to wake the undead. Together our heroines will laugh, learn, and cry - but will the power of their friendship be enough to actually save the island AND each other?

The design style is as evocative of childhood as the rest of the game. It’s all hand-painted scenes in soft pastel colours and vibrant cartoonish energy. Knights and Bikes is a wonderful game. It is sweet and colourful and transports you effortlessly to the simple pleasures of youth.

Overall Knights and Bikes is a great game I will replay over and over. I came into it not knowing what to expect and what I got out of it was an amazing story, great gameplay, fun characters, and a ton of nostalgia. I would recommend giving it a try on Switch instead of Switch Lite. Hopefully, then you won’t run into the issue I did with the game lag at the scrap yard. Still, it was fun playing through and hit me in the feelings.

Ideally, you’ll sit down and play through Knights and Bikes with a friend in the excellent co-op. If you find yourself in that potential situation, relish it like you would the end of summer before school starts again. If single-player is the only way you’ll be able to play Knights and Bikes, maybe take heed; solo play is less enjoyable experience even if the overall charm and presentation is wowing. This is a fun video game, but it’s optimally meant for two-player adventures.
