In time for Easter, more details have been revealed about I, The Inquisitor, where Jesus Christ can be violent and vengeful. The game developer, The Dust S.A., and publisher, Kalypso Media, announced that they would launch The Inquisitor within the last quarter of this year.

They also confirmed that they renamed it from its initial title, "I, Inquisitor," to "The Inquisitor." In addition, the gaming studios said they would roll out the upcoming dark-fantasy game to PC, PS5, and Series X|S.

On April 4, German publishing house Kalypso Media also released a new teaser trailer. Much of the video features a cutscene in which the protagonist, Moridemer Madderdin, interacts with a puppet show in the market. It then shifts to depicting moments when Christ exacted vengeance on the Romans. The narrator can also be heard saying that Christ took over the Roman Empire.

The Inquisitor is based on the novels of Polish fantasy writer Jacek Piekara. Its main story campaign takes players into an alternate reality where Jesus Christ can be unforgiving. Instead of dying at the cross, he breaks free and kills one of the Centurions who crucified him.

Gamers become the Inquisitor Madderdin in the fictional city of Koenigstein. As the Inquisitor of the Holy Office, Madderdin helps spread the word of God, whatever it takes.

According to the developers, The Inquisitor also features a non-linear campaign and detective-like quests. They said that players could expect morally questionable story choices along the way. This is a world where morality and what is right have long strayed from each other, they described. This is a dark and gritty story centered around a religion preaching revenge and violence. Multiple branching story choices will test your morality, they added.

The Dust S.A. first publicly unveiled The Inquisitor's development in 2022.
