Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Reveals Steve and Alex from Minecraft

After the announcement of Min-Min from Arms, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one of highest ranking Switch games, has revealed some new fighters coming to their hit crossover game—Steve and Alex from Minecraft. Here’s the reveal:

Besides Steve and Alex, you can actually swap them for other characters from Minecraft Enderman or a Zombie. While the characters do look simple, they required a lot more work to get put into the game. According to game director Masahiro Sakurai:

What's difficult, however, is the programming work required to bring the character to life. It's a massive challenge. Plus, we have to rework all our existing stages so that blocks can be placed in them. What about biomes? We also need to consider things like those. And most importantly, how do we adjust the game balance to accommodate the new fighter? Who knows what'll happen?

Steve and Alex are the second character announcement for the Fighter Pass Vol. 2 DLC and they will be available for $29.99. Players are still expecting four other fighters to come to the pack, and since this announcement was made four months after the Min-Min reveal, we should probably expect the next character to be revealed sometime in 2021—probably February.

No release date has been set for Minecraft’s Steve and Alex, but Nintendo is set to make a broadcast on Oct. 3 delving deeper into the character playstyles.
