The long-awaited sequel to the popular storybook-style strategy game Six Ages just launched. And so far, critics and gamers have praised it for carrying on its predecessor's success. Developer A Sharp and publisher Kitfox Games rolled out Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out for PC and iOS devices on August 21.
Critics like Sin Vega described the sequel as a "fascinating story-generator." It's still really damn good,
Vega wrote for Rock Paper Shotgun, Britain's video gaming journalist site.
Although everything is familiar, it feels like it's developing as a series through a wealth of thoughtful, amusing stories and possibilities. There is, in a word, still nothing quite like it,
he added.
As of August 23, at least 22 gamers left positive reviews on Steam. Steam user Zed_Alpha said Six Ages 2: Lights Out is a worthy prequel to King of Dragon Pass and a sequel to Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind.
The world is ending. Try to survive it. It's fun. It's sad. It's hilarious. It's horrifying. Buy the game and play it,
he added.
Six Ages 2: Lights Out is a survival strategy game narrated like a storybook. The game's story still takes place in the fictional world of Glorantha. In the sequel, however, players take on the role of the leader of a small clan.
The events of Six Ages 2: Lights Out take place years after the first game. Glorantha is in the midst of an existential crisis, as some gods have already perished, and the world is undergoing a transformation. The game challenges players to manage their clan's relationship with the remaining gods and their followers. They also need to do the same with other clans and factions.
Players can also explore the wilderness, trade or raid with their neighbors, settle disputes of various kinds, improve their livestock pastures, make offerings, build altars, travel to the Otherworld, and more.
Six Ages 2: Lights Out contains 600 interactive scenes with different system-driven outcomes, developers said. The game also has a built-in saga that records the player's story. It also introduced advisors that help the players keep track of their promises and obligations while expressing their opinions and personalities.
