The 10 Scariest Games of 2022

From psychological horror to creepy, haunted arcade machines

The 10 Scariest Games of 2022
ByNeil YamitNovember 02, 2022

What better way to celebrate halloween than these spooky titles. Here are the scariest games of this year!

10. KINGDOM Of The DEAD

This may look like it came straight from the 90s, but I tell you, it’s not. It’s first-person shooter takes place in a wonderland of Eldritch horrors. The game’s pen and ink art style gives off a special kind of eerie vibe. So if you’re terrified of alien overlords like Cthulhu, good luck with this one.

9. Ikai on PC, PS5, Series X, Switch, PS4, and Xbox One

Help a shrine maiden as she cleanses evil in this story set in feudal Japan. Along the way, you’ll encounter strange yokai lurking and waiting to scare the crap out of you. It’s story heavy. So despite all the jumpscares, there’s a lot of heart in its narrative and character arcs.

8. Janitor Bleeds on PC, Series X, and Xbox One

You find yourself in an abandoned arcade. Tinker with old arcade machines and try to run away from something. There’s a creature that dwells within the machines… and it’s out to get you.

7. Martha Is Dead on PC, PS5, Series X, PS4, and Xbox One

Set during the height of World War 2, you play as Martha’s sister as she uncovers the mystery that surrounds her death. Themes of grief and sadness may be too heavy for some. But the scares will definitely leave a mark.

It’s a slow burn story that takes its time.. So you better be cautious before that next jumpscare.

6. Fatum Betula on PC and Xbox One

This atmospheric exploration game feels a bit like a low-poly amusement park of horrors. Their characters and the conversations you have with them are as much a source of horror as the world itself. With its puzzles and many endings, this game is definitely a bargain.

5. The Mortuary Assistant

You play as an newly-hired embalmer. For some reasons, a demon started haunting you on your first day on the job. Now you have to prepare the corpses and get rid of the demon. Yeah, this game is terrifying. It preys on your sanity with eerie background sounds and random jumpscares!

4. The Quarry on PC, PS5, Series X, PS4, and Xbox One

You know how in horror movies the characters always make stupid decisions? This is a game built around that. Not the kind that scares you in the face.. Rather, it’s one that builds up based on interesting stories and the choices you make.

3. IMMORTALITYon PC and Series X

Watch the movies of a failed actress and piece clues together to find out what really happened. Things may seem normal, at first. But as you dive deeper, things get… a little off.

2. MADiSON on PC, PS5, Series X, Switch, and PS4

Remember Fatal Frame, right? MADiSON is similar but it leans more on the slowburn, exploration type.

What happened here? Who locked you up? What’s up with the cameras? It’s all up to you to find out. Help him find the answers hidden in this god-awful place. But be wary of shifting hallways and unexpected scares.

1. Tormented Souls on Switch and PS4

This is a psychological horror that’s a good mix of Silent Hill, and Resident Evil. Resource management? Creepy camera angles? A helpless protagonist? You got it all right here.

Your main goal is to escape from this “abandoned” mansion. Be careful… it’s not as empty you might think.

This mysterious Mansion has a lot of nods to the classics. The fixed camera angles are so old school horror.. But even for long-time horror fans, Tormented Souls has plenty of surprises.
