CASTILLO: The Nine Circles, an upcoming FPS collectathon title, just got a release date. And interested players will soon have the chance to try it out.

Indie game developer Jackson Clayton announced that he will launch CASTILLO: The Nine Circles this October 16 on Steam. Clayton, in a press release, also confirmed the game will join the Steam Next Fest. This means a demo version is expected to go live this October 9.

CASTILLO: The Nine Circles is a first-person collectathon. It takes players on a journey through the infamous nine circles of hell in Dante's Inferno as Dracula. A mysterious force has transformed hell into a twisted amusement park.

The game also served as a spin-off Clayton's previous game, CASTILLO: Shattered Mirrors. In the new game, however, they need to guide the legendary vampire in escaping hell.

To escape, they need to collect 10 magical shards in each circle, as well as other items such as money bags and paradox energy.

Players can also use these items to unlock new abilities and access new areas. Along the way, they will face various challenges, such as boss fights, minigames, combat gauntlets, and hidden secrets. The game also contains 'a diverse range of enemies', from walking forks in Gluttony to talking trees in Heresy.

Clayton promised to deliver nostalgia in CASTILLO: The Nine Circles, adding that his latest title pays homage to classic, arcade games. He cited Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie as sources of inspiration.

I wanted to make a game that recreated how I felt the first time I played Super Mario 64 on my DS, said Clayton.

I feel like I’ll never be able to fully explore the worlds in games like that. The worlds all felt so real and alive. I think that’s something we’re missing in modern games today, he added.

CASTILLO: The Nine Circles will be priced at US$9.99 on Steam. / ###
