Below, the action-adventure game where players explore the underbelly of a remote island is getting a physical edition. Meridiem Games has announced that a boxed Special Edition of Below is headed for PlayStation 4 devices.
The Spanish video game distributor has confirmed its collaboration with Serenity Forge and Capybara Games in producing physical copies of Below. Meridiem Games will be working closely with Serenity Forge on the design and manufacturing processes of the boxed Special Edition,
they said.
According to a press release dated February 16, the boxed Special Edition will be available in European specialty stores on March 31. It will contain a physical map of The Isle and a concept art book. Both will allow players to dive deeper into the game's inspiration, conception, and creation,
said Meridiem.
The upcoming special edition for Below will serve as the game's first physical copy. Toronto-based Capybara Games first released it in 2018 for PC and Xbox One. It took the indie game developer around six years to complete it. They later expanded to PS4 devices in 2020.
Below lets players take control of a warrior who ended up on a tiny and mysterious island. From a top-down perspective, they need to explore, survive, and learn more about the new-found territory. The exploration, however, takes place in the island's underground labyrinths.
As the title suggests, players must dive and spelunk below and deeper into the Island. Their survival skills also get tested, as the game does not provide any hints or guides. Any wrong move might result in instant death, developers described.
Upon its release, Below received mixed reviews from critics and gamers, receiving a playscore of 7.2 for the PC version. Critics lauded the game's visuals and atmosphere but disliked its pace. ###
