<p>The <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/">PC</a> has no problems churning out great games year after year. Now that we're midway through the year, we've sifted through the over 100 releases this year to bring you the Top 10 PC Games of 2020 So Far, arranged by playscore.</p>

<h2>10.  <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/streets-of-rage-4/">Streets of Rage 4</a></h2>

<p>It took three decades of waiting, but the classic beat 'em up finally makes a return. Led by the folks at <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/lizardcube/">Lizardcube</a>, Streets of Rage 4 aimed to bring the arcade experience to modern consoles with a fresh coat of paint. And, that's exactly what they achieved: moving away from the pixels, into smooth cartoon visuals, and expanding combat with a few new skills.</p> 

<p>Content-wise, this may have been a little too thin a modern sequel for some reviewers. As <a href="https://whatoplay.com/critics/ign/">IGN</a> puts it, "Streets of Rage 4 definitely prioritises nostalgia over any kind of big modern reinvention."</p> 

<p>However, by bringing back a brand of action that's been badly missed for years, Lizardcube has definitely achieved its goals. The difficulty continues to rage on, and with the new <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/multiplayer/">multiplayer</a> modes, you can even do it with friends.</p> 

<p>It has a playscore of 8.68</p>

<h2>9. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/the-pedestrian/">The Pedestrian</a></h2>

<p>This next game requires a different kind of street smarts. A puzzle platformer from <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/skookum-arts/">Skookum Arts</a>, it definitely makes an impression, right from the first look. With a game world taking place in and out of city signs, it's both familiar and fascinating. Aside from the distinct charm of its presentation--which shows the rich environment around the signs--, the gameplay is also really solid, allowing for a variety of amusing interactions. Rearrange the boards, connect the dots, pull down levers, and everything else in order to get to that final exit.</p> 

<p>While it was just neat and tidy enough to get a critic score of 7.82, its gamerscore show that they were more than impressed, giving it a total playscore of 8.71</p>


<h2>8. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/black-mesa/">Black Mesa</a></h2>

<p>This <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/first-person-shooter/">FPS</a> from <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/crowbar-collective/">Crowbar Collective</a> demonstrates that <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/valve/">Valve</a>'s iconic series has one hell of a half-life itself. Decades after the game's first release, Gordon Freeman's sci-fi shooting escapades get an unofficial re-envisioning.</p> 

<p>As a fan-made game, the fact that Valve allowed it to be released is a testament to its quality. While it doesn't offer a full-blown new-gen remake, critics cite it as one of the best ways to experience the classic game in the modern age. Not only is it faithful--giving justice to the combat and the atmosphere of the series--it also makes changes on the Xen part which remains a heavily criticized part of the 1998 original.</p> 

<p>Technical flaws notwithstanding, this 8-year labor of love is worth a look, whether for fans wishing to relive a classic or for newcomers who want a less dated experience. It gets a score of 8.87</p> 

<h2>7. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/monster-train/">Monster Train</a></h2>

<p>We already had a taste of roguelike deck building with <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/slay-the-spire/">Slay the Spire</a> last year. This year, it looks like developer <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/shiny-shoe/">Shiny Shoe</a> is following its footsteps, this time with a monster train to hell and a harrowing climb to boot.</p> 

<p>There is a remarkable simplicity in the game's mechanics, but with it, comes the undeniable thrill of its matches, like finding awesome new synergies between cards and witnessing the fireworks of a good combo. Monster Train has its own complexities hidden beneath its playful style.</p> 

<p>Bravely taking inspiration from such a strong strategic contender like Slay the Spire, the comparisons are inevitable. And, while it falls short of reaching that level, it remains a welcome new diversion for fans of the growing genre. It has a playscore of 8.86</p>

<h2>6. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/lair-of-the-clockwork-god/">Lair of the Clockwork God</a></h2>

<p>Another <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/indie/">indie</a> game has made it onto our PC halfway list. Proud to say it's a fast-paced <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/point-and-click/">point and click</a> <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/puzzle/">puzzle</a> <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/adventure/">adventure</a> and an indie <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/platformer/">platformer</a> in one, Lair of the Clockwork God gives your money's worth with two varieties of fun.</p> 

<p>It tickles two different genres alternately throughout dual protagonists, Ben and Dan's adventures, creating a decent balance that will impress fans of either kind. The game has been praised for the sum of all its cleverness--not just in the very British banter it presents between the two characters, but also in the push and pull between the contemplative puzzle stages and the pixel-perfection of their platforming.</p> 

<p>With the success of this bold project, this hopefully won't be the last we see of Ben and Dan. It has a playscore of 8.89</p>

<h2>5. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/deep-rock-galactic/">Deep Rock Galactic</a></h2>

<p>This here is a dwarf's wet dream, combining the mythical race's love for working side by side in mining, and fighting. It might have a more science fiction feel to its environments though, but it stays true to fantasy dwarf lore with its <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/coop/">co-op multiplayer</a> gameplay. Letting you hang around with up to three of your friends, dig, explore, and fight your way through their satisfyingly destructible and procedurally generated cave system.</p> 

<p>It seems <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/ghost-ship-games/">Ghost Ship Games</a> went tunnel vision on providing an excellent haven for coop action and that's exactly what they delivered here. Learn to synergize with teammates using their four different classes, and immerse yourself in the role of a space dwarf in a game teeming with content and fun. It has a score of 8.91</p>

<h2>4. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/persona-4-golden/">Persona 4 Golden</a></h2>

<p>This may not be a totally brand new game from <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/atlus/">Atlus</a>, but it is the first time that this groundbreaking Persona entry made it to the PC. This edition, which includes new features, characters, and story elements, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/vita/persona-4-golden/">was first released on the PS Vita in 2012</a>. With this move to a new platform 8 years later, it received a few more enhancements to the experience, such as additional Japanese voiceovers and a much needed high definition makeover.</p> 

<p>While it's not the recent, phenomenal <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/exclusive/">PlayStation exclusive</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/persona-5/">Persona 5</a>, this game  provides a perfect opportunity to get into  a series known for its fantastic storytelling, colorful characters and interactions, as well as its combat and mystery. Getting more than half a million sales in the first half, this is definitely a time-tested title and it gets a playscore of 9.01</p>

<h2>3. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/desperados-iii/">Desperados III</a></h2>

<p>Following the release of the latest <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/red-dead-redemption-2/">Red Dead Redemption</a> entry, we get another look at life in the Wild Wild West, but this time from the folks at <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/thq-nordic/">THQ Nordic</a>.</p> 

<p>But while Red Dead deals in thrills of shooting and exploration, Desperados challenges your strategic skills while playing the role of John Cooper and his gang in his quest for redemption. Roam around their beautiful, perpetually sundown environments, and figure out how to get through each daunting stage.</p>

 <p>There's a lot to tinker with thanks to its various level design. Although it may have its frustrating moments, according to <a href="https://whatoplay.com/critics/pcinvasion/">PC Invasion</a>, "for those craving a certain test of your tactical acumen, Desperados III is a perfectly rewarding experience from start to finish."</p> 

<p>It receives a playscore of 9.04</p>

<h2>2. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/ori-and-the-will-of-the-wisps/">Ori and the Will of the Wisps</a></h2>

<p>After the stir it caused with its first entry, we expected the sequel to the beloved <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/microsoft-exclusive/">Microsoft Exclusive</a> to bring more of the same magic that the first one brought.</p> 

<p>However, it seems that it brought a different kind of flavor to its familiar charms. It builds upon the world that they created, expanding it further with new platforming mechanics and improved combat.</p> 

<p>Some reviewers didn't quite like their move away from the simplicity of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/ori-and-the-blind-forest/">Blind Forest</a>, but together with its beauty and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/metroidvania/">Metroidvania</a> precision, it's still a worthy sequel. According to <a href="https://whatoplay.com/critics/destructoid/">Destructoid</a>, "Ori and the Will of the Wisps loses some of the simplicity and innocence...but it steps up in turn with bite and refinement."</p> 

<p>Still as beautiful as we remembered it, it has a playscore of 9.1</p>


<h2>1. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/half-life-alyx/">Half-Life: Alyx</a></h2>

<p>It seems Valve has taken in all of everyone's Half-Life 3 expectations and used all our energies to create something entirely different. Alyx is not the sequel we were all expecting, but within this virtual reality world, they recreated the same atmosphere, action, and intrigue that we loved from the Half-Life series, and added a fresh layer of technical genius.</p> 

<p>A prequel set between <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps2/half-life/">Half Life 1</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/half-life-2/">Half Life 2</a>, take on the shoes of Alyx Vance as she roams around City 17 and meets some familiar faces. We might have expected Valve to deliver a quality experience, but they definitely broke new grounds in the VR world, creating a full-fledged <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/single-player/">singleplayer</a> experience packed with unprecedented graphical quality, believeable physics, and a captivating storyline.</p> 

<p>It's the first half of 2020's runaway winner with a playscore of 9.49</p>

<h2>15. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/doom-eternal/">DOOM Eternal</a></h2>

<p>Tripping on its own ambitiousness in some, this latest Doom title is still a phenomenal experience that raises the stakes that the reboot series began. Takedown the legions of hell and heaven in their expansive campaign, and expanded multiplayer</p>


<h2>14. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/the-room-vr-a-dark-matter/">The Room VR: A Dark Matter</a></h2>

<p>After being  one of the most awesome puzzle games on the mobile, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/fireproof-games/">Fireproof Games</a> took their tried and tested formula to the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/vr/">VR</a>. Walk around in their renowned environments, gather clues, and leave no virtual stone unturned.</p>

<h2>13. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/command-conquer-remastered/">Command & Conquer Remastered</a></h2>

<p>The time to relive the strategy classic has come. After shaping many of our childhoods, the series makes a return with eye-popping visuals, enhanced UI, and a revamped soundtrack.</p> 

<h2>12. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/the-procession-to-calvary/">The Procession to Calvary</a></h2>

<p>For anyone that's a fan of Python-esque silliness and medieval settings, this point and click adventure is worth checking out. Live out the life of a Terry Gilliam cutout in this laugh out loud journey of corruption, conspiracy, and miracles.</p>

<h2>11. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/world-of-horror/">WORLD OF HORROR</a></h2>

<p>Thanks to Junji Ito, we all know how creepy black and white anime images can be. This love letter to the iconic horror mangaka pays tribute to that art, injecting the formula into a turn-based roguelite <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/rpg/">RPG</a>.</p>

From indie developer <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/thomas-young/">Thomas Young</a>, this game brings us to a colorful retro pixel world filled with puzzles, danger, and some rad kids too cool for their radish dad. With Dadish, you'll be drawn in by their engaging atmosphere. But, what will make you stay, is the game's consistent serving of cute levels, fun dialog, and its message of health food vs fast food. Better than any boring PSA, it gets a playscore of 8.3</p>

<h2>14. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/forza-street-tap-to-race/">Forza Street</a></h2> 

<p>Forza is a name all car enthusiasts will recognize. After its debut on the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/forza-street/">Android</a> last year, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/microsoft-corporation/">Microsoft</a> has finally brought their mobile racer to the iOS. Focusing on the beauty of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/racing/">street racing</a>, Forza Street has an amazing selection of cars, all of which you can use for the game's many events. Race through the gorgeous city streets and rack up infamy with win after win. As Microsoft's first dive into mobile gaming, the game still suffers from a few balance issues. But, if you're a fan of the series and you're looking for a worthy portable counterpart, this will do, with a playscore of  8.31</p>

<h2>13. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/evil-hunter-tycoon-nonstop/">Evil Hunter Tycoon</a></h2>

<p>Tycoon Games are usually built upon a <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/simulation/">reality simulation</a>, but this game makes an attempt at doing things differently, and it looks like it paid off. Crafted in classic pixel fashion, you will get to play the role of heading a town full of brave hunters. Your task is to build the town from the ground up, restore it to its former glory, and give your hunters a safe space to train for the big fight against the Dark Lord. Nailing the elements of city management in a fantasy-based <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/rpg/">RPG</a> style, it receives a playscore of 8.31</p>

<h2>12. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/disney-sorcerers-arena/">Disney Sorcerer's Arena</a></h2>

<p>Disney makes a throwback to our collective childhood with this turn-based RPG title. In Sorcerer's Arena, meet your favorite characters from Disney's treasure trove of movies and watch them duke it out in the real-time PVP battlefield. Whether it's Mickey Mouse in his iconic wizard's hat, or going infinity and beyond with Buzz Lightyear, there's plenty of action here for all the fans of Disney's legendary movies. As a free Disney game, there will be some pricey in-app purchases to watch out for though. It has a playscore of 8.31</p>


<h2>11. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/legor-legacy-heroes-unboxed/">LEGO® Legacy: Heroes Unboxed</a></h2>

<p>This is far from LEGO's first rodeo on the mobile, but it seems they're going the path of many big names in the genre. While they're usually taking licenses from other big names, this game takes on a more original flavor. Using more generic LEGO characters in quirky costumes and styles, create your own party of adventurers and help through wave after wave of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/turn-based-rpg/">turn-based combat</a>. With RPG elements too, you'll be able to collect new heroes, level them up, and watch them grow to be fearsome warriors in every field of battle. It has a playscore of 8.33</p>

<h2>10. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/untold-rpg/">Untold RPG</a></h2>

<p>This game may require more reading than your usual games. A text-based RPG, Untold may feel at first like your run of the mill choose your own adventure. However, its many features speak for itself, creating a full-on role-playing experience using only the text on a screen. Go on a fantastic adventure in your imagination, complete with combat, inventory management, and a wide array of characters to get to know throughout an inviting storyline. It might not be as flashy as other games maybe, but it shows the power that words combined with your creativity can hold. It has a playscore of 8.35</p>


<h2>9. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/men-in-black-galaxy-defenders/">Men in Black: Galaxy Defenders</a></h2>

<p><a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/sony-pictures-television/">Sony Pictures</a> tie-in to the iconic film franchise is an on-rails <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/first-person-shooter/">shooter</a> that's determined to bring us back to the arcade games we used to love. In every stage, you'll find a few worthy aliens to blast. Take your aim, with whatever gun the stage requires, and in barely a minute, you'll be ready for the next one. Precision isn't exactly the mobile's cup of tea, so there are some challenges in the way, despite the relative ease of its stages. With bonus challenges and pretty sweet graphics to boot, it's still worth our while with a score of 8.38</p>

<h2>8. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/cryptract/">Cryptract</a></h2>

<p>Making its debut on the Japanese mobile market and the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/cryptract/">PlayStation</a>, it was about time that the West get their taste of this fantastic <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/jrpg/">JRPG</a>--and it seems the localization was well worth it. While it offers a bit less on the side of flair, it manages to balance that off with its "never-ending" storyline, a decent amount of content, and, most of all, its balanced gacha system. Despite being a free to play the game, it's the combination of these three features that give Cryptract its premium feel.  Take your pick from their selection of characters and watch them evolve into powerful heroes. It gets a score of 8.39</p>

<h2>7. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/war-tortoise-2/">War Tortoise 2</a></h2>

<p>In this world engulfed in never-ending conflict, the War Tortoise is the artillery of choice. This game is no ordinary game. While it has a lot of exploration, it also has some incremental shooting elements that balance it all out, making it a perfect haven for casual gamers on the smartphone. Even as a free game, it still has a decent money generation system that won't bore players in the grind to the top. Topping all that with some gorgeous graphics, it definitely earned its playscore of 8.49</p>


<h2>6. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/knighthood/">Knighthood</a></h2>

<p>In this <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/online/">online strategy</a>, chivalry is dead and knighthood is all about bringing down the monsters that plague the land. From the makers of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/candy-crush-saga/">Candy Crush</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/king-com/">King</a> has been moving forward from their signature brand of match-three puzzle making. Their move towards more complex gameplay is looking pretty good if this game is any indication. Presented in cute 3D cartoon style, play the role of the Rage Knight, and battle an array of magical creatures in your own customizable style. Join guilds, upgrade your armory, and fight your way through the top with a playscore of 8.56</p>

<h2>5. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/kick-flight/">Kick-flight</a></h2>

<p>A heavy game with a heavy dose of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/action/">action</a>. This kind of beautiful presentation and fast-paced gameplay may come with a price, it's definitely not charging it on your wallets. If your phone can take the brunt of its graphics and memory requirements, this free game will give you hours of entertainment, letting you fly around their spacious arenas for a burst of real-time 4v4 combat. Sharpen your flight skills and time your attacks to soar through the leaderboards in no time. Addictive and fun for all types of players, it has clearly earned its playscore of 8.59</p>

<h2>4. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/grand-mountain-adventure/">Grand Mountain Adventure</a></h2>

<p>Coming out on the mobile earlier this year, this game has given us the opportunity to enjoy that snowy skiing holiday all year long. And, aside from ads and microtransactions, for pretty much no cost. Sure, you won't have that chilly weather to enjoy and the cute outfits that come with it. But, it also spares your knees from all that tension. Take on the rolling hills of the alps and discover the challenges that lie under a few feet of snow. A little heavy on the graphics for a simple game, it's definitely worth it for fans of the sport, even without the full experience. It has a playscore of 8.61</p>

<h2>3. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/magic-manastrike/">Magic: ManaStrike</a></h2>

<p><a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/clash-royale/">Clash Royale</a> is getting some competition from the world of Magic. Thanks to the deep source material, strategy and card game fans will find a lot in this game to work with. Especially with its top tier presentation reeling in veterans, as well as first-time players. It gets a playscore of 8.64</p>

<h2>2. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/kartrider-rush-/">KartRider Rush+</a></h2>

<p>While KartRider: Drift is already lined for the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/kartrider-drift/">PC</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/kartrider-drift/">Consoles</a> sometime soon, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/nexon/">Nexon</a> gives us our first taste with this portable version. Presentation is one of this game’s strong suits, with its lively environments populated by a lineup of adorable racers. Backing up style with substance, Rush also has a variety of game modes on offer. Do it clean in the straightforward Speed Race, or jump back to classic kart racing with the mayhem of item races. If you're careful against those pricey cars, you might enjoy this free racer with a score of 8.68</p>

<h2>1. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/legends-of-runeterra/">Legend of Runeterra</a></h2>

<p><a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/riot-games/">Riot</a> has been on top of the gaming scene these days. With <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/valorant/">Valorant</a> ruling the FPS scene, their new card game is also giving <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/blizzard/">Blizzard</a>'s <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/hearthstone-heroes-of-warcraft/">Hearthstone</a> a run for their money. Siphoning their <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/league-of-legends/">LOL</a> numbers to a whole new genre, LOR is their own take on the collectible card game, set in the same League universe. The nexus is making a return, and its gameplay is rife with action-packed scenes of dynamic turns, exciting spells, and champion upgrades. With the same high-quality products that their other games have, Riot has successfully created a card game that's fun, even when you're losing. It gets a playscore of 8.9</p>

<h2>10. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/yakuza-5-remaster/">Yakuza 5 Remaster</a></h2>

<p>This 2012 classic gets a rebirth in the form of a Remaster. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps3/yakuza-5/">Yakuza 5 </a> was one of the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps3/best/">best games of the PlayStation 3</a>, and now the PlayStation 4 can finally experience the crazy misadventures of Kazuma Kiryu and friends.</p> 

<p>While the game deals with serious themes involving family legacy under Japan’s criminal underbelly, it also goes overboard with its amount of absurd mini-games. 5’s greatest improvement is in its impressive amount of content as well. Players can now explore 5 different locales all while extending the influence of your badassery through real-time brawler combat.</p> 

<p>It’s a fantastic Remaster that truly captures Japan’s culture with style and charm. It receives a playscore of 8.70 </p>


<h2>9. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/huntdown/">HUNTDOWN</a></h2>

<p>Ranked Number 13 on our <a href="https://whatoplay.com/videos/best-ps4-coop-2020/">Top 25 PlayStation 4 Co-op Games</a>, this gritty, neon-lit 80s cityscape is in need of help. This retro-futuristic <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/best/platformer/">platformer</a> from Easy Trigger Games lets players take control of a one-armed character armed to the teeth and lay waste to this dystopian timeline.</p>

<h2>15. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/missile-command-recharged/">Missile Command: Recharged</a></h2>

<p>A strong start to our best free games list. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/atari/">Atari</a> returns to the scene this year with a revival of one of their beloved classic arcade titles. Made for the new generation of platforms, this iteration of the Missile Command title forgoes the bulky pixels of the bygone videogame era for the smooth HD graphics of today. Even so, it still has all the markings of the original game.</p> 

<p>Pick up from where you last left off and dive once more into arcade addiction. It has a playscore of 7.37</p>

<h2>14. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/shadowgun-war-games-pvp-fps/">Shadowgun War Games - Online PvP FPS</a></h2>

<p>With this new game's arrival on the android, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/madfinger-games/">Madfinger Games</a> has received the same warm welcome for yet another futuristic shooter. Focusing on <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/multiplayer/">co-op multiplayer</a> gameplay, War Games plays on the 5v5 formula, covering the usual lineup of tanks, supports, and damage dealers. While it only has five characters, they each have unique skills that bring something new to the table. Plus, you get to customize them with skins, emotes, and more. Madfinger Games have always been known for their clean, polished visual and they brought that same energy to this title.</p> 

<p>A portable and FREE shooter, it receives a playscore of 7.39</p>

<h2>13. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/dragon-quest-of-the-stars/">DRAGON QUEST OF THE STARS</a></h2>

<p>A star-studded production made especially for the mobile. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/square-enix/">Square Enix</a> presents something on the mobile that united the powers of Dragon Quest's own Yuji Horii and Koichi Sugiyama for direction and music, as well as  Dragon Ball's Akira Toriyama for character design. From the looks of things, it's a pretty high-quality title and the fact that this game is free makes it a little unbelievable. On the other hand, it does have a fair bit of flaws. As in most mobile games, it has some pay to win elements, with overpowered items that widen the gap between players with rare gems and those without.</p> <p>But, for a price of absolutely nothing, it offers a pretty expansive open-world experience that earns a playscore of 7.45</p>

<h2>12. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/game-of-thrones-beyond-the-wall/">Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall</a></h2>

<p>Thanks to  <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/behaviour-ineractive/">Behavior Interactive</a>, fans of the HBO series may finally have something to hold onto. A <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/free/turn-based/">turn-based</a> <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/strategy/">strategy</a>, it challenges you to take command of the Night's Watch and defend the wall with an optimized squad. As a videogame tie-in, it even features some of our favorite heroes from the series to fight with us side by side in a war of fire and ice.</p> 

<p>It may not be as spectacular as the iconic battles we had the pleasure of witnessing through the years, but it does come with fun gameplay and a unique story that fans will definitely enjoy. It has a playscore of 7.51</p>

<h2>11. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/disney-sorcerers-arena/">Disney Sorcerer's Arena</a></h2>

<p>Going with Disney’s more traditional licenses, Sorcerer's Arena lets you engage in <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/turn-based-rpg/">turn-based RPG</a> goodness using the legendary heroes of our collective cartoon childhood. From their 2D classics like Mickey Mouse and the Little Mermaid to the 3D favorites like Sully and Buzz Lightyear. Also featuring a real-time PVP, use these heroes to show off your skills and compete against other people from around the globe. Some of the items may be a bit pricey though, as most Disney things are, so you should better watch out for any in-app purchases.</p> 

<p>It has a playscore of 7.65</p>

<h2>10. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/magic-manastrike/">Magic: ManaStrike</a></h2>

<p>Strategy games have definitely hit it big on the mobile this year. Instead of the usual turn-based  titles, this new game from <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/netmarble-games-corp/">Netmarble</a> deals with the action of real-time combat. Following the formula of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/supercell/">SUPERCELL</a>'s <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/clash-royale/">Clash Royale</a> and using characters from <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/magic-the-gathering-puzzle-quest/">Magic: The Gathering</a>, it focuses on the power of spells and sorcery to create exciting and strategic battles. Because it's based on a card game, it's cardgame mechanics seem a lot deeper than the usual fare. And, with the vast universe of its source material, there's a lot of vibrance in its presentation too.</p> 

<p>Something for fans of Clash Royale and Magic: The Gathering, it gets a playscore of 7.81</p>

<h2>9. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/kartrider-rush/">KartRider Rush+</a></h2>

<p>While KartRider: Drift is already lined for the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/kartrider-drift/">PC</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/kartrider-drift/">Consoles</a> sometime soon, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/nexon/">Nexon Games</a> gives us our first taste in this portable version. At first glance, the game looks mighty fine, with its lively environments populated by a lineup of adorable <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/racing/">racers</a>. In their various game modes, race clean in the Speed Race, strategically use items in the classic Item Race, or zoom through their singleplayer story mode. Kartracers have always been a multiplayer extravaganza though, and that's definitely this game's biggest draw.</p> 

<p>If you're careful against those pricey cars, you might enjoy this free racer with a score of 8.01</p>

<h2>8. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/cryptract/">Cryptract</a></h2>

<p>Though it has only been localized on the Android this year, Cryptract has actually been at it for years now, mainly as a Japanese mobile game and as <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/cryptract/">a port to the PlayStation 4</a>. It may offer less in terms of wow factor, it does balance it all out with a fantastic "never-ending" storyline, a decent amount of content, and a pretty balanced gacha system. All that combined makes it feel like a more premium experience than the previous games. Take your pick from their selection of characters and watch them evolve into even more powerful players in the long game of strategy.</p> 

<p>Still a neat free to play <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/jrpg/">JRPG</a>, it gets a score of 8.04</p>

<h2>7. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/mib-galaxy-defenders-free-3d-alien-gun-shooter/">MIB: Galaxy Defenders Free 3D Alien Gun Shooter</a></h2>

<p>As far mobile games go, this <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/sony-pictures-television/">Sony Pictures</a> tie-in is a pretty straightforward on-rails <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/first-person-shooter/">shooter</a> that's reminiscent of the arcade games we used to love. In every stage, you'll find a few worthy aliens to blast. Take your aim, with whatever gun the stage requires, and in barely a minute, you'll be ready for the next one. The levels might be a little too easy, and precise aim just a little bit challenging, it’s an exciting way to spend a few minutes nonetheless--especially with a few bonus challenges to achieve.</p> 

<p>Nailing everything from gameplay to graphics, it gets a score of 8.04</p> 

<h2>6. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/tft-teamfight-tactics/">Teamfight Tactics: League of Legends Strategy Game</a></h2>

<p>The auto battler genre may have made its origins on the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/valve/">Valve</a>'s <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/dota-2/">Dota 2</a>, that hasn't stopped the makers of one of the widest-played MOBA to cash in on it too. By bringing the high production experience of the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/league-of-legends/">PC title</a> to the portable format, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/riot-games/">Riot</a> effectively reels their high player numbers into a brand new game. The interface and balance may seemingly have a lot of room for improvement, compared to the many auto-chess clones out there, this is a huge upgrade. Providing a high-quality avenue for fans of the strategy phenomenon, it gets a playscore of 8.04</p>

<h2>5. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/hidden-survivor/">Hidden Survivor</a></h2>

<p>Even in the realm of free games, it always pays to be unique. That much is true for Hidden Survivor which feels like an odd fusion of classic tag and battle royale. Set in some weird universe where humans turn into ordinary objects, you must dominate the gym-like battlefield. First by adapting to your environment, and then by racing to a revival potion to eliminate the other hidden humans. With pretty short matches, it offers a great casual experience you can jump into at any time. It has a score of 8.09</p>

<h2>4. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/evil-hunter-tycoon-nonstop-fighting-and-building/">Evil Hunter Tycoon - Nonstop Fighting & Building</a></h2>

<p>Facing you in this title is a two-fold task: first to rebuild a destroyed town back to its former glory and, second, to give brave hunters a space to train their skills for the fight against a Dark Lord. Its city management is enjoyable in itself, with plenty of resources to balance for the betterment of the village. Watch it and your citizens grow from nothingness and save the human race once and for all. An interesting pixel title, it receives a playscore of 8.19</p>

<h2>3. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/exos-heroes/">Exos Heroes</a></h2>

<p>It’s easy to be drawn into <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/line-games/">LINE Games</a> strategy <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/rpg/">RPG</a>, especially with its stunning Japanese style visuals and its roster of characters that's brimming with personality. Just like some of our previous games, it's also a turn-based RPG. What makes this special is its combination of a compelling story, solid combat, and awesome presentations. While it still has some of the annoying aspects of standard mobile gacha gaming, it more than makes up for it, with its array of colorful heroes.</p> 

<p>A gorgeous looking gacha game, it receives a playscore of 8.24</p>

<h2>2. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/war-tortoise-2/">War Tortoise 2 - Idle Exploration Shooter</a></h2>

<p><a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/idle/">Idle games</a> are just the perfect havens for casual gamers on the smartphone. And perhaps that's the reason for the success of this free-to-play first-person shooter. It's definitely no ordinary idle game. Aside from the fact that it's about a world engulfed in conflict borne on the backs of War Tortoises, it also mixes it up with elements of exploration and incremental shooting.</p> 

<p>Featuring gorgeous graphics and a fair money generation system, it earns its spot on the list with a score of 8.34</p>

<h2>1. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/legends-of-runeterra/">Legends of Runeterra</a></h2>

<p>And our best FREE game of 2020 so far is another Riot creation. Their dive into <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/card/">collectible card gaming</a> has been met with nothing but open arms, both by fans already invested in Riot's creations and newbies to the genre. It added its own flavor to card gaming, with players competing to destroy the opponents' nexus with dynamic turns, exciting spells, and champions with their upgrades and varying abilities. Add that to the high-quality production that's expected from Riot, then you got yourself a card game that's fun even when you're losing.</p>

Hopefully, the consoles versions can enjoy it as it comes out this 27th of August for the Switch, PS4, and X1.</p>

	<p>The icy hell of post-apocalyptic Colorado isn’t as friendly as it was before in this much-awaited installment to the Wasteland series. Coming a long way since 1998, this fan-funded project wasn’t an easy task. Still one of the biggest open-world experiences from the series yet, follow Prince Noctis as he goes on a quest to rescue the Crystal, defeat Niflheim, and reclaim his throne. <p>The latest RPG from <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/obsidian/">Obsidian Entertainment</a> has all the markings of their previous hits. Taking players to an alternate future controlled by megacorporations, it has that familiar sci-fi setting that fans of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-360/fallout-new-vegas/">Fallout: New Vegas</a> loved. Add that to the VATs-like Time Dilation system, the character customizations, and the biting wit of their cast, and The Outer Worlds almost feels like a second home. Just like Elder Scrolls, its high definition makeover has made the world of Terca Lumireis feel fresh even on the new platforms. Now, old fans and new have the opportunity to experience its battle systems and compelling narrative once more. It has a playscore of 8.5</p>

<p>Dark Souls III may be the end of the road for the series, but it will be long before we forget it. Borrowing elements from <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/bloodborne/">Bloodborne</a>, Dark Souls III capped off the series with a bigger, better, action-oriented approach to combat that retained their previous games' sense of strategy. <p>Quite a difference from this list's usual fare, South Park may never take itself too seriously, but it's still got a lot to offer when it comes to RPG experiences. Following up stupid hilarity of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-360/south-park-the-stick-of-truth/">Stick of Truth</a>, this sequel has one-upped the original with its own twist on today's superhero obsession. Follow Cartman and his friends as they engage in a fiery civil war between which of them deserves a movie franchise. It has a playscore of 8.59</p>

<h2>7. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/monster-hunter-world/">Monster Hunter: World</a></h2>

<p>Perhaps one of the biggest Monster Hunter adventures to date. Not only is it grander in terms of realism and graphics, but it also included a <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/multiplayer/">multiplayer</a> mode that was more convenient than ever before. Aside from the multiplayer, World also presents us with an arsenal of unique new weapons and a whole bestiary of new monsters, all packed within their array of new worlds. Best experienced with the recent <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/monster-hunter-world-iceborne/">Iceborne</a> expansion, it receives a playscore of 8.6</p>

<h2>6. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/dragon-age-inquisition/">Dragon Age: Inquisition</a></h2>

<p>Continuing the legacy of the first two games, Inquisition lets you play the unexpected inquisitor charged with saving the world from a growing threat. At the time, it was awarded as one of the best RPGs of the year, boasting a vast open-world to explore, complete with a riveting to story to unfold. Still worth it after all these years, it gets a playscore of 8.61</p>

<h2>5. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/diablo-3-ultimate-evil-edition/">Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition</a></h2>

<p>This particular edition really did a lot to revitalize what has been a pretty lukewarm release from <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/blizzard/">Blizzard</a>. With it came smoother framerates, resolutions, as well as the new <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/diablo-3-reaper-of-souls/">Reaper of Souls</a> expansion, which added new character classes and a fifth act. It doesn't sound like much now, but it was the push that Diablo III needed. We'll just have to see how <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/diablo-iv/">the coming 4th installment</a> will do against this game-changing entry. It has a playscore of 8.63</p> 

<h2>4. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/fallout-4/">Fallout 4</a></h2>

<p>Bethesda's fourth main installment of their radioactive series had to go through a few bumps in the road, but ultimately it lived up to the legacy of their name. An open-world set in a post-nuclear Boston, Fallout 4 is packed with memorable characters, multiple branching stories, and an all-consuming base-building feature. Thanks to its character customizations, shooting mechanics, and moving storyline, it's exactly what you'd expect from Fallout 4, and so much more. It has a playscore of 8.66</p>

<h2>3. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/nier-automata-become-as-gods-edition/">NieR: Automata - BECOME AS GODS Edition</a></h2>

<p>Yoko Taro's spinoff of the Drakengard series is one of our recent action RPG gems. A game that brings us in for its intriguing robotic main character and hack and slash kills, keeps us hooked with its whole existential ride. Packed with a range of endings, Nier's is a story that has plenty of layers. And it's made all the more worthwhile in this Become As Gods Edition that contains all of its major DLCs. A new classic from <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/platinum-games/">Platinum</a>, it has a playscore of 8.73</p>

<h2>2. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/divinity-original-sin-ii-definitive-edition/">Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition</a></h2>

<p><a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/larian-studios/">Larian Studios</a> has been one of today's leading names in the RPG world and it's a reputation that they rightly deserved. With this sequel, they prove their worth once more. They brought pen and paper emergent RPG gameplay with the first game, and here, they enhanced it even further, with a multiplayer mode, a Dungeon Master mode, and a fleshing out of a storyline that was already amazing to begin with. If there's anyone that can bring RPG to life on consoles and out, it's Larian Studios with a playscore of 8.86</p>

<p>There are some names you can't just beat. After years of dominating the gaming world, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/cd-projekt-red/">CD Projekt Red</a>'s third and final entry to their Witcher series has become a gold standard when it comes to open-world action RPGs. It offered players a gorgeous world and storyline to get lost in, and it made for an adventure that was hard to forget.
