Gamers looking to play something nostalgic might not need to look far.

Alterium Shift, a new retro-inspired title from indie game publisher Gravity Game Arise Co., has just dropped on Steam. The Tokyo-based publisher launched the game via Steam Early Access on July 6.

Drattzy Games LLC, a two-man team from Minnesota, develops the game. Alterium Shift is a turn-based RPG that blends 2.5D graphics, pixel art, and a classic JRPG storyline to reignite the love for the genre.

Publishers have also launched a limited promo for players who can buy the game between July 6 and July 13. They can get discounts of up to 20 percent, Gravity Game Arise added.

Alterium Shift features 2.5D pixel graphics and turn-based combat gameplay. The main story revolves around the fictional world of Alteria. Players are introduced to three playable characters known as Heroes: Pyra, Atlas, and Sage. These Heroes are in training and ready to take on quests.

According to the game's Steam page, developers planned to have it in Early Access this year. They added that the this edition might extend to 2024 "due to factors like localization and platform porting."

Based on earlier reports, Drattzy Games planned to port Alterium Shift to consoles.

Alterium Shift is currently about 50% complete. [And] we plan on providing regular updates throughout the Early Access period, Drattzy Games wrote.

They also disclosed why they decided to opt for an Early Access launch instead of initiating a Kickstarter campaign.

Let's be clear, this is not a plea for charity. Rather, it's an invitation to join us on this journey. Your support helps us bring the world of Alterium Shift to life, and we're excited about what we can achieve together, the studio added.
