Insect Armageddon is terribly cheesy in all the right ways. The lack of split-screen is a bit of a disappointment, but the mindless shooting and better performance on PC is simply too fun to keep me from caring all that much

The ageing visuals can’t quite deliver on the promise of that ‘Insect Armageddon’ tagline, either. It’s impossible not to become desensitised to the spectacle after a few hours. After that, EDF gradually loses momentum. Its extensive armoury can’t stop the rot, and the end result is decidedly shallow

Has Vicious Cycle moved the game too far from its “so bad that it’s good” roots to stay true to the spirit of the series? I’ll leave that for the hardcore fans to decide. On its own merits, the PC version of Insect Armageddon is a strong port of the most modern and proficient Earth Defense Force yet. The downloadable version is even cheaper than its console counterparts too, currently “e-tailing” for £14.99 on Steam.
