This is the first release from Quantic Dream that I've become fully immersed in, and I cannot wait to return to the gritty streets of 2038 Detroit to make alternate decisions.
Chris McMay 29, 2018
In theory, the game is replayable – on my initial playthrough, Kara's ending was rather grim – but faced with wading through its middling mechanics and patchy, often superficial story, I'm in no hurry to make a return trip to Detroit.
Kai PowellMay 24, 2018
There are some great story paths to Detroit: Become Human that can lead to different outcomes, but it's still a Quantic Dream game through and through. Expect a convoluted story that reveals itself through repeated playthroughs, characters that you grow attached to and fear to lose, and enough QTE-driven fights to make your thumbs bleed.
Dalton CooperMay 24, 2018
Detroit: Become Human may not offer much to players who don’t like this style of game, but fans of David Cage’s work should know that Detroit is definitely one of the better stories he’s crafted so far. It’s far better than Beyond: Two Souls, and while it may not be as innovative as Heavy Rain, it’s still a pretty fun ride and its incredible visuals and interesting story definitely make it worth checking out.
Michael GoroffMay 24, 2018
Detroit: Become Human is a testament to how far the genre of interactive narrative storytelling has come and, at the same time, how much further it can go. While it might still suffer from some annoying QTE moments and a few narrative speedbumps, it delivers on promises that many other games in this genre make yet fail to keep, especially in how the choices you make can lead to very different experiences down the line.
Erin CastilloMay 24, 2018
Quantic Dream excels in bringing the entire world of Detroit: Become Human to life. That’s not to say it doesn’t have some hiccups along the way, some of which will leave you questioning the decisions of the developers. It would have been nice to see a bit more depth on display for the mature themes of the game, however, what’s even more important is how the story remains fairly consistent throughout.
Giuseppe NelvaMay 24, 2018
You could see it as a mix of old-school adventure games with unforgettable storytelling, top-notch acting, and cutting-edge graphics, and as such, it’s definitely a very successful experiment. While Detroit: Become Human is the quintessential Quantic Dream game, the additional variety and the spectacular level of craftsmanship it involves may make it intriguing even for those who aren’t part of the studio’s usual target audience.

Detroit made me think about topics I've avoided about humanity and our future, and that's a good thing. These are hard issues to explore, and I'm glad Quantic Dream took on the challenge knowing it could result in failure. Detroit both succeeds and stumbles in that area. Its biggest assets are the relationship building and expansive branching paths.
Chris CarterMay 24, 2018
Detroit: Become Human, like most Quantic Dream games, is filled with muddled symbolism and a spark of hope amidst its most interesting universe yet. It doesn't have anything particular new to say, but it delivers in terms of drama, to the point where I started a second playthrough shortly after my first seven hour-ish run. It's flawed, but coherent, which is an upgrade.
Lucy O'BrienMay 24, 2018
Though I wish its story had been handled with a softer touch, especially considering the subtlety that can be conveyed through its tech and performances, its well-written and acted central trio were vital enough to me that I found myself feeling genuine distress when they were in danger and a sense of victory when they triumphed.
Dean TakahashiMay 24, 2018
It’s becoming as common a storyline as the zombie apocalypse or superhero fantasies. In each case, the story is only as good as its execution. If the characters are believable and engaging, if the story is well told, if the context and environment broadens the story, if the acting is superb, and if the actions and choices are consequential, then it is a job well done. And that’s how I feel about Detroit: Become Human.
Andry HartupMay 24, 2018
Ultimately, then, Detroit: Become Human is a game with grand ideals, wonderful levels of polish, and tiny imperfections. It’s an ambitious, wonderfully executed piece of storytelling, and one of the most interesting games of this generation. It will split opinion, and give birth to a litany of opinion pieces - some deep and thoughtful, others half-baked and sensationalist.

Detroit was never an easy game to play. Many of the choices were hard ones to make, and there’s no real right answer. It’s a game that cautions us not to repeat mistakes of the past. My choices shaped the story and personalized it, allowing me to see those decisions play out in myriad unique ways, plot holes, clumsy controls, and all. Even as human as we are, we are always becoming human, and no matter which path you take, Detroit is our story.
Cade OnderMay 24, 2018
Detroit: Become Human is the peak of Quantic Dream. It’s a culmination of everything the studio has learned by putting an authentic, intimate story that builds gradually into a story of grand proportions while combining fun and engaging gameplay that helps pad out the story. David Cage manages to juggle three different arcs while connecting them and keeping a sense of thematic consistency throughout the game.
Peter BrownMay 24, 2018
After completing the game, I tried to go back and fight my instincts to see what would happen if I chose a darker path. It never felt justified nor worthwhile. Detroit is well worth playing, but it struggles to strike the right balance between giving you freedom of choice and reminding you that it's all a game in the end. Cage and Quantic Dream are getting closer to nailing this style of game, but it's obvious that there's still room to grow.
Colm AhernMay 24, 2018
Detroit: Become Human wants to move you. It wants to elicit an emotional response through its story. The thing is, it really doesn't. The flowchart is a nice inclusion and adds some variance, but when the narrative is as cringey and ham-fisted as it is you won't want to play through it multiple times.
Dan WebbMay 24, 2018
Quantic Dream’s foray into the world of the future is a provocative affair, one that poses more questions than answers and puts you at the forefront of the narrative. With an excellent trio of characters, some incredible production values and some gripping story beats from start to finish, Detroit: Become Human is some of Quantic Dream’s best work. With a bit more actual choice and consequence, and some better controls in their next game, Quantic Dream could make that jump from excellent developer to legendary studio.
Paul TamburroMay 24, 2018
Its branching paths contain many surprises, and though it misses the mark by a wide margin in a few of them, it hits much more often than it misses. For those like me who have enjoyed Quantic Dream's games as a guilty pleasure, this is the studio's first release where the story meets its ambition. For PS4 owners, this is yet another excellent exclusive game to make its way to the console.
Sammy BarkerMay 24, 2018
The game huffs-and-puffs, but never really brings anything new to its core theme of androids awakening to human emotions – and yet despite its relative familiarity, it’s an impressively replayable interactive story with a frightening number of variables of which there’s nothing else quite like.
Miles TMay 28, 2018
Despite its minor flaws and gameplay limitations, it creates emotionally charged moments that will resonate with a number of its audience. This is a game where the biggest enemy you’ll face is your own indecision or rash judgment, it crafts an experience that exerts a level of tension and responsibility on its audience we rarely see. Not at all decisions are created equally, but they’ll all hit hard just the same.
Mike WilliamsMay 24, 2018
Detroit: Become Human improves upon its predecessors by having a cast that you enjoy and want to spend more time around. Quantic Dream's visual craft and presentation is top-notch, but the writing hasn't quite caught up yet. It isn't subtle and some of the references to social ills are amazingly on-the-nose instead of being more unique. It's better than Beyond: Two Souls, but there's still room to grow.
Colin StevensMay 24, 2018
Though it comes off as heavy-handed at times, Detroit tells an endearing story that verges on the profound, diving deep into the nature of humanity itself. It proves that interactivity and focused storytelling aren’t mutually exclusive and that the two can enhance each other given a proper degree of talent behind the scenes.
Dylan SieglerMay 24, 2018
Detroit: Become Human isn’t really a futuristic science-fiction adventure about robots any more than The Walking Dead or The Last of Us are really about zombies. Instead, it is a social revolution simulator, where most of your choices actually matter, the story and characters are engaging and moving and the amount of narrative content is incredibly massive.
Aaron MainMay 24, 2018
Detroit: Become Human has a thrilling story experience, and figuring out what choices make the plot that’s right for you is most of the fun. However, some annoying control mechanics crossed with awkward camera functionality, and performance issues stop Detroit: Become Human from reaching greatness.
Jenni LadaMay 24, 2018
It still relies on sensational concepts and topics to get reactions from an audience, with some androids’ routes more effectively and tactfully employing them than others. It is a more diverse game, both in terms of the kinds of characters displayed and the sorts of choices people can make. Quantic Dream’s formula is evolving, even if it does rely on some of the same crutches.
Bill LavoyMay 24, 2018
What makes Detroit: Become Human a great game, though, is that even after going back through alternate narrative branches and winding down my play time, I’m still invested. The world that Quantic Dream gave me to explore is only a short leap from the one we’re living in now, and the ideas presented have left me contemplating the role AI could play in our lives sooner rather than later.
TuffcubMay 24, 2018
It’s a technical masterpiece on PS4 with movie quality sound, lighting and camera work, which is backed up by some top quality action and a wonderfully evocative score. Detroit really worked for me; I was gripped by the story and connected with the characters, but I think some players may have a hard time relating to Kara, Markus, and Connor. That’s to be expected. After all, we’re only human.
GameCentralMay 24, 2018
By the end of Beyond: Two Souls we were hoping that David Cage would never work in video games again, but this time we’re actually quite interested to see what he does next. Detroit: Become Human isn’t going to spark any kind of revolution, robot or otherwise, but it is a useful step in the continued evolution of video games as a storytelling medium.
Mike HolmesMay 24, 2018
This is a fascinating game with a strong setting, a decent story, and some stellar performances, all brought to life with stunning visuals and crammed full of interesting things to discover. It's the studio's finest game to date and another great first-party exclusive for Sony and PlayStation 4, and if you're at all interested in narrative adventures and interactive storytelling then we'd certainly recommend that you take a closer look.
Adam CookMay 24, 2018
It’s not bad, by any means, but with a game this story heavy, it needs to be better. The gameplay is fun enough though very simplistic, and it’s as high-a-budget one of these type of game as you’ll find, but like all of us, really, it just needs to be better. A cliche-ridden story that has some decent ideas throughout, but is so bleak it's hard to grow attached to.
Jackson NewsomeJun 26, 2018
Detroit: Become Human is a showcase for the importance of interactive narratives, and it is a testament to Cage’s craft that Detroit works so well. In straddling the boundary between games and films, Quantic Dream continues to deliver unique experiences that evoke feelings of both media, in which immersion and choice are balanced with tightly-directed story beats. Quantic Dream has outdone itself and delivered another must-play PlayStation exclusive. The finished product is quite unlike anything else available today, and I wholly recommend Detroit: Become Human.
A.J. MaciejewskiMay 24, 2018
Even with its flaws, Detroit: Become Human marks a monumental moment in story-driven gaming. After all is said and done, the fact that your decisions have such a substantial impact reflects reality. The question is: will you make the right choices?
Bryan CalhounMay 24, 2018
Detroit: Become Human is a game made up of gold-plated jig-saw puzzle pieces: some of the pieces still fit together perfectly, but something happened to other pieces along the way, and as a result, the puzzle doesn’t quite fit together. Still, many will enjoy the individual components, but the package as a whole has the ability to seriously let you down.
Neil BoltMay 24, 2018
Quantic Dream has delivered its most consistently focused game to date with Detroit Become Human. It does suffer for some ham-fisted allegory and a couple of instances of appallingly mawkish dialogue, but that never overwhelms the overall enjoyment you get from its entertaining branching narrative.
Steve FarrellyMay 24, 2018
Acting, visuals and a relatively well-conceived future Detroit are the carrots on string here. The problem is our robot horse needs QTEs as well to get going and without enough blue blood, bled by actual gamers, it’s a hard task and road to Maple Syrup ahead.
Brodie GibbonsMay 24, 2018
Detroit: Become Human is without a shadow of a doubt, David Cage's best work. After almost a handful of failings, Detroit: Become Human showcases what David Cage is capable of as both a writer and a director. He isn't shy about tackling taboo topics, regardless of the backlash, and it pays off here in what is a stunning story of overcoming oppression.
Baz MacdonaldMay 30, 2018
Detroit is great step forward for interactive storytelling, with the impressive scope of its branching narrative and world ultimately overcoming the continued failings of David Cage’s writing. Interesting world-building. Deep branching story lines. Impactful choices.
[87]May 24, 2018
May 24, 2018
Sander NoordijkMay 24, 2018
Niedoścignioną produkcją tego typu jest dla mnie Life is Strange, wysoko cenię również pierwszy sezon The Walking Dead Telltale Games oraz Tales from the Borderlands.
CYGALMay 25, 2018
