Astro Bot, the PlayStation 5-exclusive platformer, took home the biggest prize during the recently concluded Titanium Awards 2024.
The jury praised Astro Bot for its innovative level design. In particular, the developers' ability to seamlessly integrate creative gameplay with homages to the PlayStation universe.
The platformer has also been a fan favorite since its release this year. The game gained popularity for blending nostalgia with cutting-edge mechanics. Whatoplay gave it a playscore of 9.6 and its high in the rankings of the best PS5 games of all time.
Aside from Astro Bot, other big winners during this year's iteration of the Titanium Awards included standout titles. Like The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, the newest installment in Nintendo's iconic Legend of Zelda franchise, earned the Best Game Design award. The award-giving body recognized the game for its intricate puzzles and expansive world-building.
Meanwhile, Metaphor: ReFantazio, a JRPG from the creators of Persona, got the Best Narrative Design for its compelling storytelling.
Best Art Direction went to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The game was lauded for its visual style that reimagined the classic series for a modern audience. In the sound category, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II claimed Best Sound Direction for its 'immersive audio design and haunting soundtrack.'
Nomada Studio, known for its critically acclaimed Gris, took home the Best Spanish Indie Game award for its latest title, Neva. The studio joined an array of winners celebrated for their contributions to the gaming industry over the past year.
The Titanium Awards annually recognizes excellence across the gaming industry.
In addition, this year's Titanium Awards also highlighted winners of the BIG Indie Contest, now in its third year. The competition, boasting a €10,000 prize pool, celebrated indie developers in three categories.
The Most Innovative Game was awarded to Reus 2 by Abbey Games. The sequel to the 2013 indie hit expands on the original's concept. In addition to the prize money, Reus 2 was showcased on stage.
The Best Basque Game went to Abyssal by Pina Studios. This locally developed title stood out for its 'creative approach and cultural roots.'
Meanwhile, Ghunter by Tiny Tavern took home the Best Student Game. This project showcased exceptional talent and creativity from aspiring developers.
The BIG Conference, formerly the Fun&Serious Game Festival, has evolved since its inception in 2011.
Held in Bilbao, Spain, the event now focuses exclusively on industry professionals while maintaining its mission to celebrate video games as both an art form and a cultural phenomenon.
