Subnautica 2, the sequel to Subnautica, the hit 2014 underwater survival game, just got a release window.
Creators Unknown Worlds and KRAFTON Inc. revealed that Subnautica 2 will have an Early Access launch next year. The upcoming game will arrive on PC, and Game Preview on Xbox.
While the exact duration of Early Access is difficult to predict, the development team estimated it will last between 2 and 3 years.
“It is difficult to accurately predict how long Early Access will last. Based on previous Early Access games we have developed, we expect it to take about 2 to 3 years," developers wrote in Steam.
They added that this will allow them to deliver 'quality updates at a reasonable pace while ensuring the game meets the highest standards.'
Throughout Early Access, the developers plan to release regular updates.
This is to enhance the game and address player feedback, they said.
The Early Access version will have the multiplayer mode - a much-anticipated feature in the Subnautica franchise, and several biomes. It will also include narrative elements, and a variety of creatures and craftables.
As development progresses, more features, creatures, and biomes will be added.

Developers also said the full version of Subnautica 2 will offer more content. This meant players could expect a more polished experience. Plus, new biomes. creatures, craftables, features, and narrative elements.
For the first time in the series, Subnautica 2 will introduce multiplayer co-op, with a team of up to four players.
Building upon the success of its predecessor, the game will also feature even more expansive and diverse biomes. From underwater cliffs to coral fields. Each biome will be filled with unique creatures and hidden mysteries, developers said.
Through Early Access, players will have the opportunity to shape the future of Subnautica 2.
