Bad Viking, the creative duo behind the indie sensation Strange Horticulture, has unveiled the first gameplay trailer for their newest project, Strange Antiquities. This standalone sequel invites players back to the shadowy, rain-soaked alleys of Undermere, introducing a new store and deeper mysteries to unravel.

Set in a cozy, candlelit shop dealing in arcane artifacts, Strange Antiquities places players in the role of an apprentice thaumaturge. Players will identify and catalogue mysterious items, assist locals, and navigate a web of secrets, all alongside Jupiter, the shop’s adorable feline companion. If Strange Horticulture was any indication, Strange Antiquities will get to the top ranks of the best adventure games.

The gameplay trailer offers an in-depth look at the game’s mechanics, showcasing features such as a Closer Inspect System that allows players to examine items up close, observing textures, detecting hidden properties, and feeling their essence. Artifacts might radiate cold or evoke an ominous sense of dread, adding layers of intrigue. Check it out here:

The game also boasts an Expanded Library of Esoteric Tomes, including volumes like the Guide to Occult Objects, the Book of Symbols, and the Gemstone Compendium, which players will use to solve puzzles and decode cryptic meanings.

Keen-eyed players can also enjoy its Enhanced Detective Work, which further enhances its casual puzzle gameplay. Throughout the game, players discern between similar weird artifacts, and navigate the fine line between curative and dangerous items.

Meanwhile, a Richer World to Explore introduces new maps, a fascinating cast of characters, and an overarching dark mystery.

Bad Viking’s signature blend of atmospheric storytelling, intricate gameplay, and its cozy-yet-foreboding vibes remains at the heart of Strange Antiquities.

“We wanted to build on the ideas we explored in Strange Horticulture. This time, we’re adding new layers of detective work that bring more variety and challenges. We’re excited to hear what you think of this sneak peek!” said Rob, one half of the Bad Viking team.

Fans of the original game can look forward to more of Bad Viking’s atmospheric storytelling and intricate puzzle design in Strange Antiquities. Players can wishlist and follow Strange Antiquities now to stay updated on its development.
