Square Enix Ltd. announced the second installment of the highly acclaimed game Star Ocean: The Second Story. The game gets a 2.5D remake and returns as Star Ocean: The Second Story R.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R is coming to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam on November 2. Pre-orders are now available.
Square Enix has released a new trailer for the action RPG. The trailer showcases the game's stunning visuals, action-packed gameplay, and intense battle sequences. It also features brand-new character illustrations by acclaimed series artist Yukihiro Kajimoto.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R has undergone a refreshing transformation. The game's charming 2.5D aesthetic blends 3D environments with nostalgic 2D pixel characters. This delivers a blend of classic RPG elements and a modern gameplay experience.
The game includes original features alongside new additions. Players can expect game upgrades such as fast-paced real-time combat, customizable party progression, and three difficulty modes: "Earth," "Galaxy," and "Universe."
The game begins with Federation Officer Claude crossing paths with Rena, a girl he encounters on an undeveloped planet. Rena's people are in danger, and she believes that Claude is the one who can save them. Together, they embark on a quest to fulfill an ancient prophecy.
Players can choose to start their adventure with either Claude or Rena. This decision will shape the perspectives and allies they encounter throughout the game.
The unique "Private Actions System" allows players to deepen relationships with party members and unlock various endings.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R will offer Japanese and English text and voiceover. The game also features voiceovers from the original cast and soundtracks by composer Motoi Sakuraba. Subtitles in French, Italian, German, and Spanish will be available via a software update at launch.
