The remaster to THQ Nordic's RPG, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-reckoning, has officially been announced for the Nintendo Switch and it's coming sooner than expected.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-reckoning is slated to release on March 16th next month and it will mark the title's handheld debut as well as it's first time on a Nintendo console.

“The hit RPG returns! From the minds of the bestselling author R.A. Salvatore, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion lead designer Ken Rolston, comes Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. Remastered with stunning visuals and refined gameplay Re-Reckoning delivers intense, customizable RPG combat inside a sprawling game world. Uncover the secrets of Amalur, from the vibrant city of Rathir to the vast region of Dalentarth to the grim dungeons of the Brigand Hall Caverns. Rescue a world torn apart by a vicious war and control the keys to immortality as the first warrior ever to be resurrected from the grips of death.”

The original game, which came out on the PC in 2012, was renowned for its deep lore, satisfying combat, expansive content. This will all be true for this remaster, especially with the promised new improvements on gameplay and the inclusion of three DLCs: The Teeth of Naros, Legend of Dead Kel and Weapons and Armor bundles.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-reckoning follows a number of big open world RPGs entering the Switch's lineup. The Witcher 3 was notably ported into the handheld console, and for a game renowned for its graphics, it did need to make some compromises in visuals in order to translate its vast world into a portable experience.

With THQ Nordic promising an improved graphical fidelity in Re-reckoning, it will be interesting to see how well it performs on its first handheld port.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-reckoning is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. In the meantime, you can find more games in our list of Upcoming Switch Games.
