Another classic PC simulation title will head its way to mobile devices this year. Feral Interactive announced they would port Sid Meier's Railroads! to Android and iOS phones. The British video game company has already set an April 5 launch.
They also published a Youtube trailer showing what the Railroad Tycoon title would look like on smaller screens.
Based on the video preview, most of the PC elements in Sid Meier's Railroads! will remain except for the UI. The game's mobile version has a brand-new UI that supports touchscreen haptics.
In the meantime, pre-registration for Sid Meier's Railroads! has also begun on the Play Store and App Store.
Sid Meier's Railroads! is the second PC title Feral Interactive, the publisher behind the popular Total War series, will roll out for mobile phones. The first was Total War: Medieval 2.
Sid Meier's Railroads!, developed by Firaxis Games, was first launched for PC in 2006. It is part of the Railroad Tycoon franchise, written by renowned Canadian game designer Sid Meier. The title served as a sequel to Railroad Tycoon 3. It is also the second game in the series with direct involvement from Meier.
While it features iconic railroads in the United States, and several European countries, the game is considered a business simulation type instead of train-building. In it, players become railroad tycoons and robber barons. Unlike the other titles under Railroad Tycoon, their objective is to ensure businesses thrive and survive along the tracks they built.
The 3D game also contains several historical characters as playable characters. These included American magnates Cornelius Vanderbilt and J.P. Morgan.
Sid Meier's Railroads! received "generally positive reviews" upon its release nearly two decades ago. It has a playscore of 7.2. / ###
