Horror game publisher Feardemic has revealed the launch date for the award-winning game Papetura on Nintendo Switch. Feardemic announced they would release Papetura for the Nintendo console on December 1.
The American publisher also dropped a gameplay trailer on YouTube on November 17. It gives Switch players a preview of what to expect from the point-and-click puzzle game.
Papetura first came out for PC and Mac in 2021. It garnered positive reviews and several awards after its release.
The game also marked Feardemic's decision to explore more genres. Instead of a terrifying fright ride, (it) is an atmospheric adventure game,
Feardemic wrote in a press statement released on November 17.
In Papetura, players take control of two protagonists named Pape and Tura. Both characters live in a paper-based world, and they need to save it from burning down.
Indie developer Tomasz 'Petums' Ostafin worked on the game for around six years. Ostafin, who is from Poland, used real paper models to visualize the fictional world, according to Feardemic.
Papetura is a labor of love and a love letter to both the craft of paper modeling and to old-school adventure games,
they said. The game will also feature "fragile music" from Floex to set the players' mood while exploring the paper-based fantasy.
Papetura received multiple accolades from award-giving bodies. These included "Excellence in Visual Art" for the Independent Games Festival.
It also got the Best Art, Best Audio, and Indie Grand Prix awards at the 2021 Pixel Awards Europe. The Central and Eastern European Awards also named Papetura the winner of their Visual Art and Hidden Gem categories.
