The Nintendo Switch version of the classic puzzle platformer Oddworld: Soulstorm is now live in North America. Microids and Oddworld Inhabitants confirmed the launch of Oddworld: Soulstorm - Oddtimized Edition. They released the game on the eShop last November 18.
The 2.5D side-scrolling game first came out for Switch players in Europe on October 27. According to earlier reports, Oddworld: Soulstorm - Oddtimized Edition currently costs US$50. Switch players need at least 11.2 GB of free space to download the game.
The remastered grimy, action and puzzle game that made the rave in the late 90s also served as the sequel to Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty.
Optimized for Nintendo Switch to take advantage of the platform's unique features, this version features the same amazing Soulstorm gameplay currently found on the other platforms, with a delightful Switch flavor,
developers said.
Oddworld: Soulstorm - Oddtimized Edition takes players in the aftermath of the revolution in RuptureFarms. They will lead the protagonist, Abe, in liberating another 1,000 Mudokons from the oppressive grasp of the industrialist Glukkons.
Along the way, they must confront an uncertain future and a forgotten past. Players will need to use Abe's instincts and skills to protect themselves from enemy attacks, avoid detection, and ignite a revolution.
The story also has four unique endings derived from the players' choices at each level.
Oddworld: Soulstorm - Oddtimized Edition has 15 levels. It also has two extra unlockable levels at the end of the game. Players earn Quarma scores at the end of every level based on how many Mudokons they save.
Developers said gamers with higher Quarma scores could expect good and happy endings. But 'dire fate' awaits those with lower scores.
Players need not worry, the developers added, as they can go back to any level and improve their Quarma scores.
Oddworld: Soulstorm became available for PC, PS4, and PS5 in April 2021. Enhanced Editions later rolled out in November of the same year, coinciding with the game's Xbox One and Series X|S releases.
