Indie developer OutOfTheBit is back with another vibrant adventure game. And this time, players find themselves in a story where the fate of the moon hangs in the balance.
The studio announced the development of Nanuka: Secret of the Shattering Moon. The upcoming game will be a cinematic, 2D puzzle platformer. Developers have set a release window this April 2025, for PC, MacOS, and Linux. Console versions will be released shortly after its launch.
OutOfTheBit is the developer behind the critically acclaimed dystopian puzzle game Full Void. Following its success, they will also bring their signature hand-drawn, pixel art style to Nanuka: Secret of the Shattering Moon.
Players will step into the shoes of Nanuka. She's a mixed-race young martial artist facing a world-ending catastrophe – a shattering moon. She then sets off on a journey to uncover the secrets behind this celestial disaster. And she must prevent its devastating consequences from happening.
Developers wanted Nanuka: Secret of the Shattering Moon to push the boundaries of storytelling and gameplay. It combines the 'charm of beautiful landscapes with original character design,' said Ali Motisi, Director of OutOfTheBit.
In Full Void, OutOfTheBit touched on themes about isolation. For Nanuka: Secret of the Shattering Moon, creators will introduce players to the depths of multiculturalism.
"The strength found in diversity, and the beauty of mixing cultures," Motisi added.
The world of Nanuka: Secret of the Shattering Moon took inspiration from Italy's Sicily. Nanuka's adventure begins on a peaceful island. As the players progress, they will soon find themselves stumbling upon hidden dangers and forgotten magic. They must explore diverse regions - from lush forests to decaying ruins.
The game's mechanics, meanwhile, combines puzzle and action. It will have a unique martial arts-inspired combat system. It will allow players to defeat enemies with style. At the same time, it will present players with challenging and imaginative puzzles.
