BAFTA-nominated studio Other Tales Interactive is set to release Miniatures, a collection of interactive short stories, on November 14 for Nintendo Switch, PC, and iOS.
Miniatures invites players into a world of childhood magic and melancholy. The game features four dreamlike stories inspired by strange objects found in an old wooden box.
It is best described as a narrative adventure with gameplay blending graphic novel aesthetics with contemporary adventure game mechanics. Games like FLORENCE and Gorogoa have similar gameplay directions.
The devs stated that it explores the bittersweet memories of growing up. This is made better with its intuitive touch controls available on the released platforms. This results in players interacting with the puzzles in a tactile and responsive manner.
Even before the game’s release, the studio has earned multiple accolades for Miniatures. This includes the WINGS Award at A MAZE Berlin 2024 and Best Upcoming Game Art Style at the Digital Vikings Awards 2024.
Tanja Tankred, writer at Other Tales Interactive, describes Miniatures as a nostalgic anthology, born from a love of picture books and experimental storytelling. She further stated that "Through lots of exploration, we ended up with this slightly strange, eerie, and at the same time nostalgic anthology that we are very proud to release into the world."
The studio is also known for their inventive co-op puzzler Tick Tock: A Tale for Two. It gained a small following of narrative puzzle enthusiasts including a review from Nintendo Insider. Nintendo Insider scored it a 7, stating that it is a ‘fun and engaging co-op puzzler quite unlike anything on the Switch.’
With a playtime of around 45 minutes, Miniatures is an ideal game to play if one seeking a thoughtful, immersive experience.
