Vertigo Games and PLAION revealed a 7-minute gameplay teaser for their upcoming FPS VR title, Metro Awakening, which is set to release this November 7 on PlayStation VR2, Meta Quest 2, 3, 3S, Steam VR, and Viveport.

The video, uploaded on Youtube, showcased the early moments of the game, specifically its prologue. It did not reveal much of its gun-combat, but it did show the first few enemies of the game.

Metro Awakening is a complete and original story written by none other than Dmitry Glukhovsky himself. The game’s time period takes place years before Artyom and Anna’s venture into the Exodus.

Players follow the life of Serdar, a doctor navigating the treacherous underground world left in the wake of nuclear devastation. He embarks on a dangerous journey to find medication for his wife, challenging both his courage and sanity as he faces off against the irradiated horrors of mankind.

Serdar is not a skilled soldier unlike Artyom and his Spartan allies, so players can expect a slower combat experience. Scavenging essential resources such as ammo, gas masks, and filters is important to do to survive.

The VR elements will intensify the Metro series’ signature gameplay elements, pushing players into an atmospheric trip across the Metro tunnels. Fans of the old Metro titles can find a reason to return inside sprawling Metro tunnels.

Metro Awakening will serve as the latest entry to the award-winning Metro game series after Metro Exodus’ release back in 2019. It is not developed by former creators (4A Games) behind the first three titles, instead it is worked on by the studio (Vertigo Games) behind games like Arizona Sunshine and its sequel.

The series has gained critical acclaim over the years. Players and critics praised the game’s post-apocalyptic setting and its detailed first-person mechanics. It gained playscores of 8.0 and above across all three of its titles.
