During the PC Gaming Show on June 11, 2023, Mexico-based developer Halberd Studios and publisher Freedom Games announced their latest side-scrolling platformer and Metroidvania game, Mariachi Legends. Set in the vibrant landscapes of Mexico, the game is slated for release in 2024 on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.
Mariachi Legends is a new action-adventure game set during Mexico's Day of the Dead carnival. Players take on the role of Detective Pablo Cruz, who must investigate a sinister curse threatening the town of Santa Mascota. Along the way, they will encounter whimsical characters, unravel eerie mysteries, and engage in thrilling swordplay.
The game immerses players in Mexican culture as they explore historic haciendas, churches, taverns, and ancient ruins. Players can also investigate clues, gain power-ups, take undercover assignments, decorate their homes, and complete quests from the residents of Santa Mascota. The game features multiple endings, so players can experience different outcomes depending on their choices.
Players can fight enemies inspired by classical Spanish and Aztec folklore using various combat techniques, including attacks, parries, and guards. The La Sombra ability, granted by Lady Death, allows players to vanish and reappear at will, which can be used to take down enemies. Players can also use their surroundings to their advantage.
