Square Enix has announced that Foamstars, their vibrant 4v4 online foam party shooter, is now free-to-play on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
This new update removes the entry fee for all players, regardless of PlayStation Plus subscription status. On the other hand, existing players can continue their foam-filled adventures without interruption.
Alongside this significant change, Foamstars has launched its eighth season, "Diamond Jam," running from October 4 to November 7, 2024. The new season introduces several exciting features, including "Diamond Chips" - a new in-game currency that players can earn through gameplay and trade for various cosmetic items like skins, slideboards, and emotes.
To celebrate the season's launch, Square Enix is offering special login bonuses featuring Diamond Chips for all players.
Foamstar's season 8 update significantly expands the game's content with five new maps added to the SMASH THE STAR mode, including Shoreline Shoppin' Spree and Rubber Duck's Spa-larious Oasis. Private Party mode players will gain access to four additional maps from HAPPY BATH SURVIVAL.
Diamond Jam also introduces new WAVE boss battles during SQUAD MISSIONS and limited-time events, including RANKED PARTY, where players can compete solo or in teams across seven ranked tiers.
The new Square Enix IP received a lukewarm reception upon release. It received a playscore of 6.1, with reviewers panning its lack of maps and dearth of single-player content.
Hopefully, Square Enix recovers with this new season that's packed with plenty of new content for players. The developer has promised ongoing support with regular events and updates throughout the season.
