Indie game developer Joe Richardson is set to release the third and final installment in his absurdist Immortal John Triptych series, Death of the Reprobate. Releasing on November 7, it will continue the developer's trademark mix of classic point-and-click adventuring, Renaissance art, and Monty Python-inspired humor.
Death of the Reprobate follows the success of Four Last Things and The Procession to Calvary. This new chapter promises a new wave of dark humor, quirky characters, and surrealistic puzzles.
The game follows Immortal John, who is back for some reason. Despite the Immortal in his name, he’s currently facing his final days in the mortal realm.
Throughout the game, player’s are tasked to aid John’s heir, Malcolm the Shit. They must complete seven good deeds before sundown, in hopes of securing a generous inheritance. Players must guide Malcolm through the bizarre world of Renaissance paintings and quirky dialogue. Just remember, the Lord God is always watching.
Developer Joe Richardson’s unique visual style adds flavor to Immortal John’s strange adventures. It combines real artworks from artists like Brueghel and Millais with his own irreverent humor.
Fans of old-school point-and-click adventures such as The Secret of Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle will feel right at home.
Both Richardson’s previous games, The Procession to Calvary and Four Last Things, received playscores of 8.4 and 8.7 respectively. The former was praised by Polygon for its "Monty Python-style jokes." Fans can expect the same in this final chapter.
According to Joe Richardson, "I burnt myself the f*ck out six months ago, but the game wasn't done so I kept going, and now I feel genuinely unwell lol I HOPE YOU LIKE IT!"
Anyway, Death of the Reprobate launches November 7 on Steam.
