This week marked the official App Store and Google Play launch of Death Travelers. The Early Access release takes players into the underworld, all while vibing to tracks from legendary artists Snoop Dogg and RZA. As cheesy as it sounds, players must race against time to rescue lost souls from eternal damnation.

In Death Travelers, players navigate through treacherous afterlife terrains, driving to save souls and earn upgrades. It does not play like a typical racing game. Instead, it borrows a mix of genres from other mobile classics. This includes a runner slash racing mode reminiscent of Temple Run, and a base-building mechanic similar to Bethesda’s Fallout Shelter.

The game’s version of the afterlife is crafted from various mythologies throughout human history. As this is not a true racing game, players encounter boss fights that require strategic use of power-ups. This adds more replay value than just zipping and dashing across the land of the damned.

To brave through its challenging content, customization and base-building are integral to the game. This allows players to upgrade their cars and workshops that unlock their full potential. The ultimate goal is to restore the bridge of ascension and descension, guiding souls to their final destinations.

As for its soundtrack, the game features a rich selection of tunes from iconic artists. Death Travelers include new tracks from Niosmith, a musical project by multi-platinum artist and producer Mike Smith, and Grammy-nominated drummer Nioshi Jackson. Niosmith’s collaboration with Snoop Dogg and RZA infuses the game with an intense atmosphere that oddly works in the world of the dead.

Players can expect a steady stream of officially licensed tracks, including exclusive releases from Niosmith, Snoop Dogg, and RZA, with new music dropping every month.

Death Travelers is available to download on the App Store and the Google Play Store. Like all mobile games, it has its fair share of microtransactions. Although optional, these can sometimes be a slippery slope for others.
