Dead Island 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the Dead Island series, gets a new release date. But this time, the game will launch earlier than scheduled.
Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios confirmed that Dead Island 2 had gone gold. They will finally release the survival horror game this April 21. As a celebration, the two companies have (redacted) decided to shorten the wait for fans and release the game one week earlier than they were expecting,
developers said.
Dead Island 2 had been under development for eight years. First introduced to the public in 2014, the game's creators targeted a 2015 release. But for various reasons, from financial to "misalignment," it has been postponed multiple times.
In addition, the action RPG had been under two gaming studios before it finally landed with Dambuster Studio in 2019. The UK-based game developer is a subsidiary of Deep Silver.
Dead Island 2 serves as the third title in the Dead Island series. The main story will take place in a zombie-infested Los Angeles.
Players can choose up to six playable characters in looting mansions in Beverly Hills, and fighting the undead lurking in Hollywood. Like its predecessor, Dead Island 2 will feature an open-world setting. The developers also confirmed that they would keep some of the well-known mechanics of the first game. These included 'Rage' and crafting systems.
Dead Island first came out in 2011. It was developed by the Polish game studio Techland.
Deep Silver initially wanted Techland to continue the series with a sequel. At that time, however, the Warsaw-based studio decided to work with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for Dying Light, a zombie survival game.
Dead Island 2 will be available on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC. / ###
