Crypt Custodian is a whimsical top-down Metroidvania set to launch this August 27. Published by Top Hat Studios, Inc., this Zelda-like title will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, and Xbox.
In Crypt Custodian, players will step into the paws of Pluto, a mischievous cat who finds himself in the Afterlife's Palace after an untimely demise. After a disastrous encounter with the Afterlife Guardian, Pluto is sentenced to a lifetime of janitorial duties in the afterworld.
Armed with a trusty broom, players will explore a vast and vibrant landscape filled with quirky characters, hidden secrets, and countless curiosities.
Players can expect to meet and befriend other exiled ghosts, each with their unique backstories and unlockable items. An in-game hub called ‘The Sinner's Inn’ serves as a palace to socialize, purchase items, and upgrade skills. As players progress, they will tackle puzzles, battle bosses, and clean their way through dungeons to gain new abilities and upgrades.
The world of Crypt Custodian is a visual feast. As a Metroidvania taking a page from games like ‘Hollow Knight,’ it has an interconnected biome ranging from weeping forests and amusement parks to neon crests and mysterious basements. Each area is teeming with life and secrets, offering a rich and immersive experience.

The game was showcased at this year's Guerilla Collective, highlighting Crypt Custodian as developer Kyle Thompson's most ambitious project yet. It was built on the success of his previous titles, Sheepo and Islets, both highly-rated games on PC. As a result, this game aims to deliver a heartwarming narrative, tight and responsive gameplay, and a beautifully crafted world to explore.
Crypt Custodian will launch globally with support for multiple languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified & Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Review keys are available on PC via Steam, Switch, PS5, PS4, and Xbox, with a hard embargo in place until August 27th at 6am U.S. Pacific Time.
