The new demo for the upcoming survival-horror game CONSCRIPT is now available for PC. Jordan Mochi, the one-man team behind Catchweight Studio, launched Conscript's 0.3.0 version on Steam last September 16. A new gameplay trailer on YouTube accompanied the demo's release.

It has been nearly a year since the last demo update, so I thought I'd upgrade it to more accurately reflect the gameplay of the final game, said Mochi.

However, Mochi said gamers who have already played the 2021 demo might not find anything new.

If you've already played the 2021 version, this won't offer any new areas - it's just a refinement of the same chunk of the game. Saves are not compatible with the previous demo either, he said.

Still, Conscript's newest update includes enhanced visuals, among others. Players can expect new intro cinematics and updated character designs. This year's demo also contains new NPCs and new visual effects for fire, smoke, gas, and explosions, to name a few. A mounted machine gun turret mechanic was also made available.

Trip to Verdun

Meanwhile, Mochi published a development blog (devlog) days before the demo release. The devlog featured his visit to the historic French town of Verdun. The Australian developer revealed that his recent trip to Verdun inspired much of Conscript's newest version.

After joining Gamescom 2022 in Cologne, Germany, Mochi decided to make his way via train to France. He chronicled his visit to Verdun, one of the major sites of battles during World War 1, on Conscript's Kickstarter page days.

Gamescom was a great experience, and travelling through the hills of Verdun for the first time gave me a lot of inspiration for the game, said Mochi. I spent a week following the old trench lines and exploring overgrown abandoned forts. Conscript is going to become extra authentic now! he added.

The top-down, survival-horror game tells the story of a French soldier trying to find his lost brother amid the chaos of World War 1. Told in a grainy, pixelated art style, Conscript takes inspiration from classic survival-horror titles such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

Conscript 0.3.0 is also part of this year's Halloween Scream Fest for Steam.
