Players got to try the new RPG title Reverse: 1999 as it nears its global launch. Developers from Bluepoch confirmed that the Closed Beta test for Reverse: 1999 began on August 4. The event, dubbed "The Utopia Test," will run until August 13, according to a press release.

The Closed Beta also gave players a first look and a chance to try the narrative-driven, turn-based strategy game. Reverse: 1999 is scheduled to be released globally later this year.

The game takes place in an alternate version of the 20th century, where humans and Arcanists, who possess magical powers, co-exist. The story starts on the last day of 1999, when a mysterious phenomenon called the "Storm" threatens to erase all history.

Players take control of a timekeeper named Vertin to save the world from unraveling into total and utter chaos.

"The Utopia Test" introduced gamers to the prologue and the game's first three chapters. This means they can access different locations and periods of history, including the Swinging 60s in London.

Aside from Vertin, the closed beta allows players to meet other characters. They are Sonetto, Vertin's assistant; pirate radio DJ Regulus; and members of Manus Vindictae, a mysterious arcanist faction.

Players can also try out the game's combat system. According to the developers, it features card-based battles and spinning wheels to select Arcanists.

The Utopia Test is available for PC, iOS, and Android devices.

In the meantime, Bluepoch said they will provide more details about Reverse 1999's upcoming global launch soon. Developers also announced their participation in the 2023 Tokyo Game Show this September.

Reverse:1999 was first launched in Mainland China on May 31. Bluepoch revealed their plans to expand the game worldwide last July.
