Hooded Horse and Digital Suns released their dark fantasy RTS, Cataclismo, into Steam Early Access. This base-building strategy game lets players create towering fortresses and survive the relentless horrors of the Mist.
In Cataclismo, players lead from behind enemy lines of their custom-built fortresses. The goal is to push back the encroaching darkness and hold fast against overwhelming odds across several game modes.
Many players are citing Cataclismo's similarities to notable tower defense titles like Castle Story and They Are Billions.
The game's Early Access offers a main campaign with a tutorial and eleven levels spread across two distinct biomes. It also features a skirmish mode with two levels across two biomes, and an endless mode featuring procedurally generated maps in one biome.
Additionally, Cataclismo also encourages community-made projects with its comprehensive level editor. This editor allows players to create and share their own maps using the two main biomes, with official support for sharing these creations.
Throughout its Early Access period, the game will continue to expand its gameplay loop. The devs at Digital Sun plans to add more biomes and mechanics to all game modes. These will includes additional content for its Endless mode and new levels for the main campaign.
Cataclismo launched in Early Access with over 300,000 wishlists and a warm reception from content creators and media. Not surprising, coming from the creators of the critically-acclaimed games like Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story, and Moonlighter, which is still one of the best iOS games of all time.
The game is localized into several languages, mainly German, French, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.
Cataclismo is available on PC via Steam Early Access for $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 / ¥3,980, with a 20% launch discount running until August 4, 2024.
