Lucid Dreams Studio has officially released its 2D action-adventure title, BIOMORPH, now available for PlayStation 5 players on the PS Store. The game was already launched on Steam and the Epic Games Store last April, bringing a fresh twist to the Metroidvania genre with its unique mechanic of transforming into defeated foes to gain their powers.

Check out the launch trailer from its Steam and PC version here:

BIOMORPH transports players to the hand-drawn world of Ilios. Step into the shoes of Harlo, one of the last survivors of their kind. Armed with the ability to ‘biomorph’ into creatures they defeat, Harlo can acquire a range of powers to overcome obstacles and battle enemies.

These abilities range from enhanced speed and strength to launching devastating projectiles, creating dynamic opportunities for both combat and exploration.

While it is not a soulslike title, players familiar with the shell mechanics from Another Crab’s Treasure or the mask system from Entoria: The Last Song will find this gameplay feature appealing.

One of BIOMORPH’s unique features is its adaptive AI. As players progress, creatures they previously mimicked evolve, unlocking new powers and presenting fresh challenges when revisiting earlier areas. This innovation keeps gameplay dynamic, rewarding strategy and experimentation.

Players will also have access to a variety of melee and ranged weapons, each with its own upgrade tree. These options allow for personalized playstyles, supported by customizable skills and builds to enhance both combat and puzzle-solving.

The game currently stands at a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam from over 390 users. It may share the same DNA from other metroidvanias, but much of its praise come from the strategic depth of its combat and puzzles. On whatoplay, it also received a playscore of 8.1 on the PC.

BIOMORPH is available now on PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store for $19.99 USD. A release for Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X|S is planned for early 2025.
