The cult classic auto-battler is coming to Switch. 

In a press release, Sunsoft and Plug In Digital announced that <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/ikki-unite/">Ikki Unite</a> will be releasing on the Nintendo platform on April 18.

Ikki Unite is a 16-player roguelike game that pits players against a swarm of locusts and tax collectors. 

Sunsoft described the game as ’a celebration of unity, cooperation, and strategy’.

The story is similar to the NES original where farmers overthrow their feudal lord in comedic ways. 

Play as one of the four archetypes: Explorers, Attackers, Enhancers and Healers. Each archetype brings varying rogue-lite elements that ensure fresh experiences every run. 

Players can choose from two game modes. The online mode allows them to match with others from around the globe. Additionally, they can also play solo in offline mode.

Known outside of Japan as ‘Boomerang’ and ‘Farmers Rebellion’,‘Ikki’ is one of Japan’s gaming cult classics.

Like the original, Ikki Unite has the same multidirectional shooting. However, developers describe the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/upcoming/">upcoming Switch</a> game as a true ancestor of "horde survivor" games. It shares its gameplay with the likes of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/vampire-survivors/">Vampire Survivors</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/brotato/">Brotato</a>. 

Ikki Unite is available on PC via Steam. First released on Feb 14, 2023, it's currently rated 'Mostly Positive' with over 600 reviews.

You’ll either have to stop playing or purchase the necessary resources to return to the racetrack. And, the lack of cross-platform support means you might not find a lot of players in your skill level. 

But it’s not always bad. This Switch port handles a lot of things well. The split-screen mode allows you to play with friends locally. You can share Joy-Cons and revel in the four-player local-split screen. Even if the game runs out of players, you can always grab a friend and enjoy casual racing offline.

The game’s seasonal updates add new cars to collect and various goodies for car enthusiasts.

The crossplay support means there’s no shortage of players. Although you might want to brush up your skills before facing off against the PC sweats.

Its microtransactions come in the form of new animals to play and weapons to collect. These are purely cosmetic and don’t lean on any pay-to-win elements. There’s a lot of fun to be had here and the game continues to bring new content with its regular Seasonal updates.

The microtransactions have been a cause of concern since launch. They enhance a Pokemon’s ability, seemingly giving whales an unfair advantage. Some might argue that there are other ways to ‘git gud’, it’s still a touchy subject in the community. On the plus side, at least there’s crossplay if you prefer to play with <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/best/">iOS</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/best/">Android</a> players.

Phoenix Labs’ <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/monster-hunter-rise/">Monster Hunter</a> clone has come a long way since 2019. Even if it barely scratches the surface of its original, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/dauntless/">Dauntless</a> introduced competition to the Monster Hunter formula. 

Dauntless’ <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/free/">free-to-play</a> model offers a great alternative for players who can’t afford the CAPCOM franchise. It is an accessible action game where you hunt monsters and make weapons out of their body parts. 

Microtransactions are purely cosmetic. It’s completely optional unless you want to go for the fashion endgame and give your characters the drip. 

While the game isn’t really ‘dead’, there haven't been major updates for a while. The good news is that a huge update is coming this Summer and players are eager to get their hands on it. The developers are promising big things, from increased challenge to better rewards and more monster variety.

And with its recent shift to a free-to-play model, more players can get on this wacky game show either with friends or a couple of strangers.

The Switch is a great system to play this with since you can just drop in and drop out anytime. However, with its hardware limitations expect downgrades in the visuals.

But it’s is still an enjoyable <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/best/first-person-shooter/">FPS</a> and a chance for new players to experience what Overwatch is all about. 

Apart from its 5v5 change, the battle passes and buyable skins can be off-putting for players who just want to play. Unlike the old lootbox mechanic, the bundles are expensive and only shows how much money you spent on the game

Even with all that hullabaloo, Overwatch 2 is in a decent state right now. At least it’s on the right track with a healthy met, a growing player base, and a recent resurgence in esports.

It doesn’t live up to its former glory, but there are still about a hundred players active every day. Unfortunately with no crossplay, Switch might have a hard time finding other players.

You can just fly right in with your custom hero and follow the main story. Or wait for peak hours online to gather a team of like-minded heroes.

The game has a premium version if you want to skip through all that grinding, but you can always try the free-to-play version to check your interest.

Of course this isn’t also limited to players who want to climb up the ranks. Master Duel has plenty of options for you to get right into the d-d-duels with its easy-to-pick-up deckbuilding. 

Since this is a trading card game, there are microtransactions if you want to get the best cards early. The good news is that it is optional and you can still grind or craft Gems if you don’t want to open your pockets.

This MOBA game made it outside of China and into international markets. Arena Of Valor shares the same mechanics as its MOBA peers, where you control heroes with their own set of abilities in a 5v5 format.

It’s the closest thing the Switch has to a <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/league-of-legends/">League of Legends</a> game. 

<a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/arena-of-valor/">Arena of Valor</a> has a steady esports scene in South East Asia. Unfortunately, there's been a decrease in players in Europe and America over the years.

You can purchase in-game currency to unlock skins, heroes, and other items. It’s completely optional and you can still enjoy the game without it. 

<h2>6. <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/f-zero-99/">F-ZERO 99</a></h2>

The 1990 Nintendo classic that defined the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/best/racing/">racing</a> genre is back… but it’s not what you think it is. 

F-Zero 99 is still the same F-Zero but with the added appeal of the Battle Royale mechanic. 99 players race against each other in nostalgic levels that still have the original music. The goal is to outlive other racers using new tools like speed boosts and Energy meters. The last racer takes the crown. 

Players can unlock new color schemes for their vehicle by completing objectives. 

A Nintendo Switch Online subscription is required to play online.

It’s a serene MMO that’s all about making friends as you soar across a gorgeous and vibrant world. There’s no shooting each other or becoming the last man standing, it’s just pure vibes. 

If you’re familiar with <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/journey/">Journey</a>, this follows the same format. You go on what seems to be a solitary quest, only to be met with players who want to help out. It’s a silent adventure, but the game helps you forge connections in unique ways. 

The devs are still pushing new content with the seasonal model. They add new bits and pieces to the world, as well as new emotes and costumes. 

For a game as peaceful as this, Sky’s microtransactions can be expensive and predatory. Thankfully they’re all just cosmetics you can ignore to focus on flying and making friends.

Fortnite’s live-service has evolved over the years and it’s now a playground of crossovers and crazy game modes. It’s slowly becoming a virtual hub for players of all types.

The skins can be alluring for new players, but they’re all cosmetic. There are a few ways to get them but they require real money. So tread carefully when you browse the shop. Otherwise you might impulse buy that Zeus skin.

Although this is a free-to-play game, it isn’t technically free. Like F-Zero 99, there isn't much to do offline so you’ll need an active Nintendo Switch Online to enjoy.

The microtransactions aren't much to roll your eyes at. They’re all aesthetic upgrades that let you switch it up with colorful backgrounds, shiny blocks, and music.

A lot of players aren’t happy with the expensive pricing but they’re completely optional. You don’t need them to reach the upper echelons of the League.

All that adds up to a sci-fi trip that provides more than a thousand hours of game time. Sure, it can be a bit overwhelming to explore everything it offers. Then again, there’s a wholesome community that can help beginners in their journey.

And the crazy part: the Switch port has all of these expansive game modes, including cross-play. This comes at the cost of visuals and performance, but it’s still a treat to dive into its massive free-to-play world.

In its launch year alone, it won the Off Broadway Award for Best Indie Game at New York Game Awards. It was also nominated for the Games for Impact Award at the Game Awards.

This year, it was a finalist in Excellence in Design at the Independent Games Festival Awards. It also received two nominations at the BAFTA Games Awards for Game Beyond Entertainment and New Intellectual Property.

The BAFTA Game Awards will be the first up on April 11. This is followed by the Nebula Awards on June 8. The Hugo Awards will be last on August 11.

Chants of Sennaar earned a new set of honors this year with new nominations from Nebula and Hugo awards.

Sci-Fi Indie ‘Chants Of Senaar’ Nominated for Hugo and Nebula Awards

Publisher Chucklefish has announced a mobile release for <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/wildfrost/">Wildfrost</a>, the hit roguelike deckbuilder. The game will arrive on Android and iOS on April 11, 2024.


To go along with the announcement, Chucklefish also released a new trailer for the game.

Developed by Deadpan Games and Gaziter, Wildfrost is one of the most popular roguelike deckbuilders on PC. It competes with the likes of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/balatro/">Balatro</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/slay-the-spire/">Slay The Spire</a>.

In Wildfrost, players must embark on an adventure set across frozen landscapes.

As the chosen Tribe Leader, players navigate paths teeming with procedurally generated challenges. They must master Wildfrost’s deck-building to survive the biting cold.

Wildfrost encourages experimentation. There are various ways of optimizing a run. Players can recruit or rescue card companions to receive charms and abilities. These powerful additions either make or break a run.

The fresh challenges in every run make it a highly-replayable game.

Wildforst first came out on Steam and Nintendo Switch in April last year. It received glowing reviews, especially on PC. It garnered over 6,000 ‘Very Positive’ reviews on their Steam page, and a PC playscore of 9.2.

Hit Roguelike ‘Wildfrost’ Coming to iOS and Android

The surreal <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/best/single-player/">PC singleplayer</a> horror game <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/slay-the-princess/">Slay The Princess</a> gets its first big update today. 

Developer Black Tabby Games announced that this free update will flesh out the endgame content. The update will have new animations and 3,000 words of restructured dialogue and choices. 

The update also brings new versions of key tracks, played by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra.

Tony Howard-Arias, Lead Writer at Black Tabby Games, thanks fans for their love and support. 

“The love everyone’s shown for Slay the Princess changed our lives, and that support means we can keep working on it to try and fulfill our vision for the game,” Howard-Arias said.

Slay The Princess is a horror visual novel. In a twist to the classic ‘Damsel In Distress’ trope, players must stop the princess from ending the world. It has a fully voiced narrative and hand-drawn art.

Atlus recently announced they are moving the release date for <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/shin-megami-tensei-v-vengeance/">Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance</a> to June 14, 2024. 

Originally slated for a June 21, 2024 release, publisher Atlus has moved its release one week earlier. With this change, Vengeance will have simultaneous releases for all platforms.

Atlus will be rolling out the latest Shin Megami Tensei (SMT) title on <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/shin-megami-tensei-v-vengeance/">Switch</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/shin-megami-tensei-v-vengeance/">PS5</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/shin-megami-tensei-v-vengeance/">PS4</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/shin-megami-tensei-v-vengeance/">Xbox Series X</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/shin-megami-tensei-v-vengeance/">Xbox One</a>, and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/shin-megami-tensei-v-vengeance/">PC</a> via Steam.

This definitive edition of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/shin-megami-tensei-v/">Shin Megami Tensei V</a> will expand on the storyline with new demons and new areas to explore. The game will also come with improvements in the combat system and visuals.

Pre-orders are up right now for the PC and consoles, except for Switch. The pre-orders for the digital version of the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/upcoming/">upcoming Switch game</a> will be available at a later date. 

Those who pre-ordered the game will receive their copy on June 14.

In it, players take on the roles of ordinary high school students who are carried away to a parallel version of Tokyo called Da'at. This alternate reality is an apocalyptic world teeming with demons. Players must recruit and fuse demons to fight for their cause.

Atlus first released Shin Megami Tensei V as a timed exclusive on Switch on November 12, 2021. The publisher <a href="https://whatoplay.com/post/smtv-vengeance-announcement/">announced this enhanced version</a> in February this year. 

The new release date for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance will allow players to enter Da’at before entering the Land of Shadow--the setting for the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/elden-ring-shadow-of-the-erdtree/">Shadow Of The Erdtree</a> expansion. The release date for the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/elden-ring/">Elden Ring</a> DLC is on June 21, 2024.

Release Date for ‘Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance’ Moved a Week Early

The dunes of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/sand-land/">SAND LAND</a> await. The video adaptation of Akira Toriyama’s classic anime is opening its doors to eager players with a free demo. 

Still weeks ahead of its upcoming release on <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/upcoming/">PlayStation</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/upcoming/">Xbox Series X</a>, and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/upcoming/">PC</a>, players can get their first taste of the adventure. With characters Beelzebub, Rao, and Thief, players can cruise through the open sands with Toriyama's stylized vehicles. 

The demo includes a small part of the map for players to explore and experiment with their unique abilities. In addition to combat, they can also try its weapon customization and vehicle upgrades. These essential mechanics are necessary to improve the gang’s efficiency to stay alive during intense enemy battles.

<a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/sand-land/">SAND LAND</a> takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where resources are limited. It follows the story of a ragtag group of characters as they fight for their survival in a decaying society.

Akira Toriyama is known for being the creator of the Dragon Ball series and main character designer behind the Dragon Quest RPG. The anime and the game franchise have since become the subject of many high-profile RPGs and fighting games. These include <a href=""> Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of Elusive Age</a>, which currently sits as one of the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/best/rpg/#google_vignette">best PC RPGs</a>.

Future Game Show Spring Showcase 2024: Over 50 Games Featured

Paradox Interactive’s sequel to their best-selling <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/best/city-building/">city-builder</a> will receive a sandbox upgrade with a fresh selection of Beach Properties. This new asset pack will launch on PC on March 25 alongside its first stage of in-game modding options. 

The new modding will allow players and creators to build, share, and play with mods through its accessible in-game editor. 

This platform allows players to discover and curate other available mods into one-click Playsets. More asset modding tools will be released later this year as well. 

“Modding is part of the lifeblood of <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/cities-skylines/">Cities: Skylines</a>, and starting our Modding Beta is going to be a transformative step for Cities: Skylines II,” said Mariina Hallikainen. 

“The creativity and feedback from our players are what makes this community what it is. We can’t wait to see how everyone puts these tools to use, and work alongside them to make sure everyone is empowered to make the cities of their dreams,” the CEO of Colossal Order further stated.

In addition to the Beach Properties and the modding platform, an in-game radio will called the ‘Deluxe Relax Station’ will also be released. It features a new host and a full hour of new music. This package will be available for $4.99/£4.49/€4.99 or as part of the game’s Waterfronts Expansion Pass or Ultimate Edition.

Cities Skylines II was released on PC last October 24. It came with a slew of massive gameplay improvements, like a traffic AI, more management tools, and a visual overhaul.

The game received polarizing reviews on release and received a below-average playscore of 5.0 on PC. Critics and players were unhappy with its performance issues and noticeable bugs. Paradox Interactive is adamant about fixing the game starting with this upcoming update. 

Cities Skylines II will also be <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/upcoming/">releasing soon on PS5</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/upcoming/">Xbox Series X</a>. The <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/simulation/">simulation game </a>is slated to release this Spring.
