Steam's recent event which began in June 20, <a href="https://store.steampowered.com/sale/games-made-in-germany-2024">Games Baked in Germany</a>, featured a wide variety of new and upcoming games. Presented by Games Germany, it showcases a few of the biggest titles developed by game studios based in country. 

Some of the highlights of the showcase were Nivalis, a Cyberpunk life sim set to release in 2025; and Morbid Metal, an upcoming action roguelite with an interesting shapeshifting mechanic.

Horror Tales: The Beggar is a new installment from the Spanish developer’s horror anthology. It is available to play on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Horror Tales: The Beggar Now Available on PC and Consoles

Following the slew of E3-like showcases this month, Nintendo also launched another edition of their Nintendo Direct presentations. And, this June presentation was one of their biggest yet.

The Nintendo Direct June 2024 featured 33 games in total. This included new game announcements, updates to released games, plus new additions to the the Nintendo Switch Online - Game Boy Advance collection. The presentation also revealed the new gold-coloured Nintendo Switch Lite Hyrule Edition.

For our first relaxing game, we have Paper Trail. An adorable puzzle game about a budding astrophysicist who finds herself on a strange adventure. Here you help Page run away from home through the art of origami. I personally love the puzzles and I just love the feeling of “unfolding” a new chapter with a few careful moves, or even a stroke of luck. If your idea of relaxing is taking care of plants without the puzzles, then Garden Life is probably more your style. Garden Life is all about creating your dream garden, and all the hard work that comes with it. Like clearing out weeds, plotting your garden, choosing your plants, and watering them every day. With enough love, you’ll have your beautiful garden with plenty of flowering plants you can sell as bouquets. For the plant lovers, it also has a plant encyclopedia that shows you all the plants you’ve discovered with instructions for their care. 

If you want to really immerse in your garden, I would suggest avoiding the Switch version. The visual and performance downgrades just makes the experience less.

Echoes of the Plum Grove isn’t your usual farming game. As the newest villager in the town of Honeywoood, you’ll still have to socialize, farm, and forage. Not only will you have to stock up for winter, you’ll also need to manage hygiene and vaccinations. Luckily the game manages the balancing act, resulting in loads of funny interactions and a fun story to boot.

It’s a casual adventure, with simple quests, crafting and decorating, and some cute locations to explore. If you already have an Apple Arcade subscription, I highly recommend this.

There’s a story mode where you can go from small rooms to entire offices and houses. But, you can also have a zen designing session in Sandbox.

Next, we have Princess Peach: Showtime. This is Peach’s first time in the spotlight and boy does she shine. In Showtime, Peach can transform into an array of different characters, from detective to ninja, to baker…each translating to a different kind of gameplay.

It’s mostly aimed at kids so the mechanics are pretty simple. Even the combat is forgiving. It’s about 8 hours of playtime for the main story, and you can just jump om every time you feel like being the star of your own show.

Although it has some of the micromanaging of the usual City Builders, Fabledom’s magical elements and cute visuals manage to keep it light. It’s out on PC, with console versions coming later this year.

<h2>Pine Hearts</h2>

For all its simplicity, Pine Hearts is a wholesome and heartfelt experience.

With its music and colorful Nordic landscapes, it really does feel like a storybook come to life. It’s already out on Switch and PC. A version for Android and iOS is coming out later this year.

The Summer Game Fest Live held on June 8 had an array of exciting announcements for new and upcoming games this year.

Gamers on iPhones and iPads will soon have a new place to buy games. 

Aptoide, the leading independent app store, will have its closed launch in the EU on Thursday, June 5. This launch would mark the first non-Apple games store on iOS.

<a href="https://ios.store.aptoide.com/en">Aptoide's iOS platform</a> brings new high-quality games to iOS, as well as new features. For example, Aptoide offers a gamification feature that offers players bonuses of up to 10% on every purchase. 

"The Aptoide iOS game store represents a significant shift in the way users and developers interact with the iOS gaming ecosystem. It marks a significant departure from the traditional iOS gaming ecosystem, which has been controlled by Apple's App Store," said Paulo Trezentos, Aptoide's co-founder and CEO.

The recent launch by Aptoide comes in the wake of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) policy in Europe, which went into effect in 2022. The DMA specifically aimed to regulate big tech companies--or gatekeepers--on digital platforms to allow for fairer competition. These digital platforms included search engines and social networks, as well as mobile app stores. 

"We thank Apple for their support thus far, knowing that there are still areas for improvement in the alternative distribution of iOS apps. We are optimistic that, with continued cooperation from Apple and regulators, the business terms and user experience will continue to be improved in the coming months," Trezentos continued. 

Interested EU users can still sign up to the waitlist for access codes to the closed launch.
