The wait is almost over for The Alters, the newest title from the team behind This War of Mine and Frostpunk.

The sci-fi survival game will make its way to Xbox consoles this year. On top of that, developer 11 bit Studios, for the first time, unveiled its gameplay trailer.

During the recent Xbox Partner Preview live stream, 11 bit Studios revealed the release window for The Alters. They confirmed the game's arrival on PC and Xbox Series X|S within this year. In addition, players can access it through PC and Xbox Game Pass service on its launch day. This means subscribers can experience the game at no additional cost.

The Alters is an upcoming game that blends multiple elements. These included survival, exploration, and psychological horror elements. Players become Jan, a lone space miner stranded on a harsh and unforgiving planet. His survival depends on his ability to create 'alters', short for alternate versions of himself.

A preview of how players can generate alters for Jan was also part of the game's latest trailer. The video also confirmed how player choice for one alter can influence others.

The gameplay footage also highlighted the crucial role of every alter. Players will need to strategically use these alters and tap their unique abilities to overcome challenges.

In the video, one hulking alter can be seen excelling in physically laborious tasks to gather resources like mining. Meanwhile, other alters are better suited for navigating dangerous environments.

The new trailer for The Alters also emphasized the psychological and moral complexities of Jan's situation. Moral and ethical dilemmas await players when they control and create alters. Creators even hinted at potential conflict and emotional turmoil as Jan grapples with the consequences of his choices.

In the meantime, developers from 11 bit Studios are expected to release more information about The Alters in the coming months. /###
