Game publisher Soedesco announced the launch of Airoheart, a story-driven action RPG, on mobile devices.
As of November 29th, fans of classic top-down RPGs can access the title via the Google Play Store and App Store, the Dutch publisher said.
Airoheart combines real-time combat with fast-paced battles against a variety of monsters. It was developed by Pixel Heart Studio. The game first launched on PC and consoles in 2022.
Airoheart tells a story of betrayal, redemption, and the fight against an ancient evil in the pixel-art land of Engard.
Players take on the role of the titular Airoheart. An unlikely hero, they must guide Airoheart in stopping his estranged brother from unleashing a powerful force. This journey leads Airoheart through dangerous dungeons filled with intricate puzzles. As well as deadly traps, and hostile enemies.
The game explores themes of loyalty, duty, and forgiveness as Airoheart faces the emotional weight of his brother’s betrayal. At the same time, the responsibility of saving Engard.
With key decisions shaping the story’s resolution, players may also experience different outcomes. From permanently sealing the ancient evil to a bittersweet ending.
But upon its debut, Airoheart received mixed reviews. While critics praised the game for bringing nostalgia to classic RPGs, they criticized its lack of originality.
"Airoheart is a passable game," wrote Mich Vogel for NintendoLife. "But hardly one we would recommend you rush out to buy unless you simply cannot get enough of the 2D Zelda formula," he added.
Kim Snaith of Game Spew gave it a rate of 70 out of 100.
"While Airoheart takes some small steps to be its own thing, there’s nothing here that truly separates it from its inspirations," said Snaith. In Metacritic, Airoheart received a Metascore of 61.
