Yakuza Kiwami builds on the already solid foundation laid out in 2006, bringing everything to the modern era. It’s dazzling in motion, raw and violent, but blessed with emotion and remarkably fond moments. If this is your first foray into the world of Yakuza, Kiwami is an excellent place to start. This is the beginning of a legacy: the chronicle of a man known as the Dragon of Dojima.
Despite everything, I still recommend Yakuza Kiwami. If nothing else, it's worth it for the story, which introduces characters and events that go on to shape the series as a whole. More than the internal disputes of the Tojo Clan or the peculiar friendship of Kiryu and Majima, the heart of the series' story revolves around Kiryu's relationship with Haruka.
I can’t really knock the game down too much for being what it set out to be - a faithful re-imagining of an eastern classic. This is the standard for which all remastered game releases should aim. Sega’s PC port team deserves another pat on the back for a rock-solid PC release that treats the PC player like a first class citizen. Sure, it’s a few years late to the party, but it showed up to the party with weed and liquor for everyone. 8/10 unbuttoned collar shirts
