Coming from Yakuza 0, this was an enjoyable game with fighting mechanics very much similar to the prequel. The story is pretty good and it was a nice challenge trying to strengthen the "Dragon" fighting style. Although I had run into a glitch and instead of upgrading it throughout the length of the game, I was forced to grind out and upgrade it, however unless you run into the glitch you shouldn't really have to grind for the fighting style. Overall very fun and a great first game to the series.

Despite everything, I still recommend Yakuza Kiwami. If nothing else, it's worth it for the story, which introduces characters and events that go on to shape the series as a whole. More than the internal disputes of the Tojo Clan or the peculiar friendship of Kiryu and Majima, the heart of the series' story revolves around Kiryu's relationship with Haruka.

If someone asked me to describe Yakuza Kiwami in one word – ‘fun’ – would immediately pop into my head. Some games in 2019, while well developed and nuanced, don’t contain the pure unadulterated fun that Yakuza Kiwami effortlessly delivers. It’s a throwback to an era without the cynical monetisation you see in modern titles, when you were likely still living at home and playing these sorts of games after school. Clear your calendar, buy this game and solve all your in-game problems with punches and kicks.

Yakuza Kiwami builds on the already solid foundation laid out in 2006, bringing everything to the modern era. It’s dazzling in motion, raw and violent, but blessed with emotion and remarkably fond moments. If this is your first foray into the world of Yakuza, Kiwami is an excellent place to start. This is the beginning of a legacy: the chronicle of a man known as the Dragon of Dojima.
