In many ways, Book Three acts as the fulcrum from which the story's trajectory pivots on your past choices. It is short and powerful, using the momentum of previous chapters to leverage dramatic weight going into the penultimate act like narrative jiu-jitsu. In contrast to the previous two acts, the third clocks in at around four hours, none of which seem to waste a minute.
Realms offers more action than any previous episodes of Dreamfall Chapters. It’s exciting to see Zoe cross into Marcuria, and satisfying for Kian to finally head into dangerous, uncharted territory. Where the previous episode dragged in its rush to get through key plot points, Realms is exciting and interesting. If previous episodes laid the groundwork and pushed the pieces into place, Realms finally reaps the benefits.
Dreamfall Chapters Book Three: Realms manages to blow the previous two chapters completely out of the water, upping the ante in the story stakes, building more of a connection between players and the characters within, whilst also introducing some highly engaging new puzzles across both new and familiar settings, fixing any of the niggling issues found in Book One: Reborn and Book Two: Rebels. This is what fans were waiting for - and it can only get better from this point onwards. Roll on Book Four: Revelations…
