We got our first look at Mortal Shell Shell back in April, and the trailer from Cold Symmetry and Playstack had promised once again a punishing, wonderfully designed game.
While we sat for months without a release, a new trailer has announced that the game is actually going to be available sometime later in the month.

As is turns out, Mortal Shell will be playable come Aug. 18 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Here’s the official description for the game:
"Awakening as an empty vessel, you will enter into a shattered and twisted world where the remains of humanity wither and rot.
Implored to do the bidding of the mysterious “Dark Father”, you must traverse this tattered landscape and track down hidden sanctums of devout followers. There, in Mortal Shell’s most hallowed grounds, you must overcome formidable foes and harvest the sacred glands.
You won’t be truly alone when the dead litter your path: Scattered across this land are the remnant anima of lost warriors who can be inhabited to gain their unique abilities and knowledge of weapons. The Dark Father is desperate for you to complete your task — but to what end?"
It has a lot of elements that you can expect from a Soulslike game, from the uniquely designed bosses to the controller-mashing difficulty.
Probably the new element that Mortal Shell wants to bring to the table is the ability to possess fallen enemies. Players are expected to adapt to different skillsets whenever they take possession of any new character.
I have to say, this game looks to be releasing earlier than expected. At some point, I was thinking a trailer today would mean a release sometime later in the year, but instead we’re looking at Mortal Shell becoming available in a few weeks. Let’s hope it doesn’t disappoint.
